For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.
· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.
Describe the issue
After allowing a recent update to Roon from a remote device the Roon server software running on my Mac mini running Catalina. I've been running just the Roon server software on this device for several years without a problem. After this update a new version of the Roon app was installed which is not compatible with my operating system. I deleted the Roon app and reinstalled the Roon server app. It launched and ran correctly until a popup forced me to download an Roon app install process again. I want the old reliable server app installed without being forced to upgrade to an incompatible Roon app.
Describe your network setup
Mac mini hardwired to Unifi switch and Dream Machine Pro router. Rock solid.
See the release notes, which provide a link to download the previous version:
Going forward, a free option is to update your Mac with the OCLP app. This works with nearly all Intel Macs at least to update to macOS 12, which is all you need.
Thank you for your post. We understand it’s frustrating to suddenly be stuck without Roon.
Roon’s minimum requirements have changed for MacOS for both security and stability reasons, but you can access a temporary download link for Roon at the link shared above in the meantime.
Long-term, you’ll need to host RoonServer on a compatible OS version. There are third-party tools like OCLP that can allow you to update to MacOS 12 in the meantime.
Please let us know if we can answer any questions. Thank you.
Thanks for the info and links. The pre-2.65 installer basically disabled the Roon Server app I had installed. I’m assuming that’s by design. This installer has my Roon services back up and running now.
Given how frequently updates are pushed out and the inconvenience of mistakenly accepting one of them, is there a way I can either through the gui or the command line disable software update checks??
As I’m planning on running Roon for the last 20 years of my life, would a Nucleus One remain compatible with all future updates or will, like most pieces of software controlled hardware, become obsolete requiring yet another significant investment?
Yes - head to your Roon Settings > About > click the cogwheel next to your Server (and Roon remote, if you’d like) and select ‘Ask before installing any updates’
You are spot on correct with the above assumption - the Nucleus One will remain compatible
