I'm having trouble with my Nucleus hardware

To clarify, a Nucleus is Roon’s proprietary server hardware.
What you mean is whether the Carbon X1 works as a Roon Server (which was often called “Core” in the past). The answer is yes.

No, it cannot be a Roon Nucleus. Yes, it can be a Roon server. It can also act as a Roon client and/or Roon end-point.
