I'm truly puzzled how this is all supposed to work. I had installed Roon on my laptop prior to purchasing a Nucleus One (which arrived yesterday). I was able (with much difficulty) to get my music into the system and start playing music but it was nothing like the quick start promised and took hours. I installed an internal SATA drive in the Nucleus before I powered up and also plugged in an external SSD w/ all my music on it but have no idea if the ext drive has been copied to the internal drive or not. I find the documentation is unrelated to my experience and inscrutable. I feel like a 5 minute conversation with a knowledgeable person would be all I need to get this sorted but Roon appears to have no phone support? Am I an idiot? Am I missing something? Thx.
You cannot copy music from an external drive attached to a Nucleus directly to it’s internal drive. You have to copy the music via the network from a different computer to the Nucleus internal drive which should be seen as a shared network location. make sure the other computer is on ethernet as well as copying via Wifi can take awhile.
Also, you cannot make database backups to the internal drive of the nucleus, so you will need an external drive or a network location to make those database backups to.
Also, if you do copy your music to the internal drive (I personally suggest just using an external drive), make sure you review the Library Migration FAQ to ensure you maintain any edits, play counts, etc.
