· Dear Sir/Madam, Hope you are well. Thank you for delivering the Roon Nucleus Titan Stone to me. I just took delivery of a DELA S50 network switch. For internet connectivity I am connecting TP-Link BE Deco 85 wi-fi router to the DELA S50 using DELA C1 SFP+ Direct Attach Cable [Port 1] I connect a Roon Nucleus Titan [roon core] using RJ45 port [Port 4] and I also connect a Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC using RJ45 port [Port 6] to the DELA S50. I have an issue which I appreciate your input and comment. I can only get the Roon Nucleus Titan [roon core] to connect to internet if and only if I set both Port 1 and Port 4 to 1 gbps [light blue color]. I cannot get Roon Nucleus Titan [roon core] to connect to internet if I set Port 1 to 10 gbps [white color] and Port 4 to 1gpbs [light blue color]. Can you advise if your other clients face this same issue where Roon Nucleus Titan [roon core] cannot connect to internet if incoming internet is of a higher speed than Roon Nucleus Titan [roon core]? Let me reassure you on the core question first: the Nucleus Titan doesn’t need to match the speed of your internet uplink. Handling ports of different speeds is exactly what a network switch is designed for - a 10 Gbps uplink feeding 1 Gbps devices is a completely standard configuration, and the Titan is unaware of the uplink speed entirely. So this isn’t a limitation of the Titan, and it’s not something other Titan owners would encounter as a product issue.
What your symptoms point to instead is the link between the Deco router and the DELA S50 itself. When you set Port 1 to a fixed 10 Gbps, the switch stops auto-negotiating that link, and the connection over the SFP+ Direct Attach Cable to the Deco likely fails to establish at that forced speed - meaning the switch loses its internet uplink altogether. The Titan is simply the device where you notice it.
A quick test will confirm this: with Port 1 set to 10 Gbps, check whether your Mola Mola Tambaqui (Port 6) can reach the network. If it can’t either, the problem is the uplink, not the Titan.
If that’s confirmed, the things to look at are on the DELA/TP-Link side: leave Port 1 on auto-negotiation if the S50 offers that option, verify the Deco’s SFP+ port is configured for 10 Gbps on its end, and keep in mind that SFP+ DAC cables can be vendor-sensitive - a cable that works at 1 Gbps may not establish a stable 10 Gbps link between these two particular devices. DELA support would be the right party to confirm which cables and speed modes are validated for the S50’s SFP port.
In the meantime, running Port 1 at 1 Gbps as you do now is a perfectly good configuration - your internet plan speeds up to 1 Gbps will pass through unaffected, and audio streaming uses only a tiny fraction of that.
@Nepherte is correct here, your best next troubleshooting step is to set Port 1 on the DELA S50 to auto-negotiate rather than a fixed 10 Gbps. This is the most likely fix, many switches fail to link at all if one side is forced and the two ends don’t agree.
Overall thought, nothing here points back to Roon Server/Titan itself; it’s an uplink negotiation issue between the router and switch.
Thank you @Benjamin and @Nepherte. Thank you for your feedbacks. You are both right. The issues lies with the SFP+ cable that I am currently using. It is a Direct Attach Cable. On TP-Link’s frequently asked question website, they recommend SFP+ modules and optical cable as there is compatibility issues with Direct Attach Cable. I just placed an order for SFP+ modules and optical cable to see if it will resolve the issue. Thank you for assisting me.
Glad you tracked it down. That matches what we suspected, SFP+ DAC cables can be picky about vendor pairing, and TP-Link’s own compatibility notes back that up.
