Describe the issue

First and foremost, this diagnosis process sucks. If I mess up one thing, I'm committed. Literally the 7th time I've retried. (god forbid I forget to shift return.)

Now on to the Roon Server.

Everything was working fine until the most recent update.

All devices have firmware and software updates.

I am able to connect to the Roon server via RDP or directly and it will play to all output.

I cannot connect via remote (Roon on Android).

Hello @Andrew_Steinmetz

Your server plays fine locally, which tells us Roon Server itself is healthy. What is failing is your Android remote reaching it. Local playback does not need incoming connections, but a remote finding and connecting to the server does. So the most likely cause is Windows Firewall blocking those incoming connections.

This commonly breaks on an update, which matches your timing. Windows firewall rules point at a specific program file in a specific folder. When Roon updates, it installs the new version into a new folder, so the rules you or Windows created no longer match the files that are now running, and Windows treats them as unknown.

Please check the following on the Windows machine:

Open Windows Defender Firewall, then Advanced settings, then Inbound Rules, and sort by name. Look for every entry for Roon, RoonServer and RAATServer. If any are set to Block rather than Allow, please delete them. A Block rule is created automatically whenever a firewall prompt is cancelled, and it overrides any Allow rules added afterwards.

Then add allow rules for the current executables.

Finally, please confirm the network is set to Private rather than Public in Windows network settings. On a Public profile, Windows blocks the discovery traffic Roon relies on.

If you also run antivirus or another firewall product, please add the same exceptions there.
