Likely a very niche unique problem (just me?), and one I’ve found an acceptable work-around for… but thought I’d post anyway, as it may speak to something bigger/broader in terms of how Roon works on Windows 10? Anyway, here goes:
Core Machine (Operating system/System info/Roon build number)
Windows 10 (64 bit)
i7-6700k CPU
EVGA GeForce 1060 GPU (6 GB)
Operating System and main programs installed on Samsung EVO 850 SSD
16 GB of DDR4 RAM
Running Roon Version 1.7 (build 667 for 64-bit); “stable”
Network Details (Including networking gear model/manufacturer and if on WiFi/Ethernet)
Motorola SB7420 modem
TP-Link AX-6000 router
Cat6 ethernet connection directly from router to Desktop PC (Roon Core installed)
Audio Devices (Specify what device you’re using and its connection type - USB/HDMI/etc.)
I’ve got an 8-zone Chromecast Audio whole-home-audio setup
A 2-zone speaker RAAT setup (one OPPO UDP-203 and one Raspberry Pi 4 running Ropieee)
and a single “headphone” zone which is also a raspberry pi 4 running Ropieee
Description Of Issue
The PC is a swiss army knife.
It runs Roon for music.
Plex for Movies.
HDHomeRun for Cable TV and DVR
And several different “PC Gaming” services (Steam, Epic, Battle.net, and Xbox, fwiw).
Problem:
After someone plays an Xbox-on-PC game, Android Phones (both mine, Pixel 2, and my wife’s, Pixel 3) cannot reconnect to the Roon Core without someone first closing Roon and then reopening Roon.
This problem is unique to after XBox-on-PC games are played. No problems occur after someone plays something on Steam, for example. The problem is also unique to Android phones being able to reconnect. The Roon server is still working. Music can be played to zones from the desktop. My android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab S6) Roon app has no problems connecting to the core and playing music to any zone after Xbox-for-PC is played. Only the android phones cease to be able to connect/reconnect until someone closes and reopens Roon.
I’m able to “fix” the problem by simply closing Roon and reopening it (or, more accurately, telling my son to after he’s done). This is an acceptable work-around. But I thought I’d share this unique connection issue as an FYI to the community and developers. Seems like pretty odd behavior to me… might have nothing to do with Roon and everything to do with Microsoft’s own gaming software?
Note: Every time Roon opens, NVidia’s “GeForce Experience Overlay” flag pops up on the top right corner of my screen… also seems odd, that Roon startup triggers “GeForce Experience Overlay” popups…
