Description Of Issue
In my logs I see connections to push.roonlabs.com every 10-30 seconds. To be precise I see DNS requests for that URL every 10-30 seconds. I see requests for events.roonlabs.net roughly every 6 minutes. In addition I see many requests to bits.roonlabs.net, auth.roonlabs.net etc. not as often, every 1-2 hours. And this is all when I am not using Roon, haven’t used it for two days.
Requests every 10-30 seconds seem unreasonable, especially when not in use. Is it normal? I don’t think I observed it before.
Yep it chatters away all the time. If you search the forum you will see lots of similar questions. I think it’s one of the reasons that going to a fast DNS server is do helpful with some systems.
Generally, while Roon/RoonServer is running it is always communicating with our servers. This is used for metadata updates, licensing, TIDAL/Qobuz integration, and more. This is not atypical while RoonServer is running and the amount of data used to communicate with our servers is minimal (excluding large metadata updates / image updates which are not frequent).
Thank you for responding. I understand the need for continuous communication, and probably very little data is tranferred. But communication every 10-20 seconds, isn’t it a bit overboard especially when not in use? It’s hard to see technical reasons for this. It’s borderline DDoS. I hope your servers are OK. I am afraid my internet provider might think I am DDoS’ing someone. Here is a snippet of what I see:
The interval is as short as 8 seconds to push.roonlabs.com. From a technical point of view why not open a single connection through the firewall and send keep-alives? Or if data travels that often there is no need for keep-alives. My SIP adapters do this and I don’t see many DNS queries from them.
I am not complaining. Everything works fine and the internet connection is not overburdened at all. I just thought it was a little bizarre and wanted to let you know about it.
