Describe the issue

Yesterday my Roon Core (running on a Mac Mini (i7) MacOS 15.71) started continuously scanning the library and duplicating albums and playlists.
My music files are on a Synology NAS that is mapped to the Mac. This configuration has worked well for a couple of years.

I uninstalled Roon (Core and UI) on the Mac server and reinstalled it and restored from last weeks backup.

All looked good but the same scanning and duplication issue occurred overnight.

I currently have Roon stopped on the Mac.

What are steps I can take?

Describe your network setup

Synology NAS and Mac Mini are connected via 1GB Ethernet. I have an Xfinity router that also manages wireless. Currently using a 10.0.0.x range.

Please could you share a screenshot of Settings → Storage.

Here you go.

Example of what it’s doing:

Good day @Kuljit_Dharni !

Thanks for reaching to us!

We can see that on your screenshot your library counts around 1 000 000 tracks.

Can you please confirm whether it is correct amount or it is not your actual library size ?

Also, can you please try to reinstall Roon on your mac without restoring your backup and observe whether it is going to endless scanning loop ?

Thanks!

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards.

There are 44,857 individual files in 3,661 folders. I will try the clean install later tonight after work. Should I upgrade MacOS to Tahoe?

You say your music is on the NAS, and mapped to the Mac. It appears that your library is watching both devices, and the include the same content.

What happens if you disable the Samba share in Roon?

The “Music Folder” is local and empty. It gets picked up by default. This config has been in pace for ~4years and about 2 on this Mac Mini.

I did get a chance to do a clean setup and they worked correctly. See screenshot.

Is there a way to keep some or all of the stats and only recover those from the backup? E.g., hours listened, top albums etc.

Excellent news @Kuljit_Dharni!

There is not currently a way to save specific database stats - performing a backup will bring with it your specific stats at the time the backup was made.

Any explanation re. Why the backup restore does the duplications? I have 4+ years worth of data that I would like to keep.
Another oddity after the new install is that I cannot see a paired set of Google Nest speakers. The individual speakers do show up, but not the stereo pair. All other devices (KEF LS60, Ropiee, AppleTVemphasized text etc.) do come up.
