You wouldn’t thinks so but it was. It kept telling me it wasn’t authorised, there were many suggestions on the forum and I tried them all, but to no avail.
Anyway I’ve copied and pasted the database onto the USB so hopefully that should work.
I can’t see a topic by you on the forum for your problem. Maybe other solutions weren’t applicable to your specific situation. Based on what you wrote now, I can’t really imagine what the problem might be, either, but with more info maybe the forum hive mind can find out.
Don’t copy and paste the database to the USB drive. This isn’t a backup. That’s what I used to do and when my IMac failed, I tried to use the database that I had copied and pasted to my USB drive when setting back up on my new MacBook - it did not work.
I back up my NAS, the source of my music daily. Although I also backup my Roon database, I’d like to understand why it is advisable to do so. It’s simple to just rebuild the database anew given the time it takes. So it takes a day or so, so what? Please explain. Thanks.
Depends. I have thousands of manual edits in my database to correct metadata errors, so it would not be easy to rebuild.
Plus all of this would be gone:
In addition to your library’s metadata, it also contains any edits you’ve made, your play history, all of your Roon playlists, your favorites, your settings, and more. All of this information is stored in your Roon Database.
You lose your entire history of when things where added to library any manual fixes due to Roon not picking correct versions of albums. I have 7 years of history and changes I don’t want to have to rebuild again.
Some people have spend years making edits to their Roon database. There is no reason not to let Roon do automatic database backups. Mine backs up nightly, weekly, monthly, and quarterly. Why not?
I took a 1TB HDD out of an old computer and bought a powered case on Amazon. It stays plugged into my Nucleus USB.
