Can Support also take a look at my account? I know that diagnostics were activated after I had issues doing a restore when I first received my nucleus, but I am having the exact same issues as the above original post. Periodically for no reason the nucleus just reboots itself. This just happened tonight at 2027 Eastern standard time. I was streaming music from Qobuz at the time. All of my music is on a Samsung Evo SSD mounted inside the nucleus.
Thanks
Doug
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
I am looking over your Nucleus logs and I do see the reboot, but it is not clear what triggered it. I see immediately before the reboot, it looks like the Nucleus was identifying an album Farnadi - BARTOK Mikrokosmos
. I wonder if perhaps this album might be causing issues, can you try to temporarily remove it from your library?
I suppose that could’ve been it. It had many tracks over 100. Perhaps that somehow overloaded the system and caused it to crash. I’ve attempted to play it a few more times since over the weekend and nothing bad happened. So I’m going to keep it for now but if it crashes again when I try to play it I’ll take it out. Thanks
Looks like it reboot it again. Not sure what it was doing as I wasn’t playing music at the time. It just wouldn’t work today when I tried to play music so I had to reboot in order to get the core to be recognized again by any of my devices. Not sure why this keeps happening. Frankly I never had this issue with my Mac for the multiple years now that I’ve had roon…!
Thanks
Doug
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
If this issue occurs again can you please note the exact local time + date when it occurs as well as a screenshot of the issue? That would be really helpful in case we need to take a look at diagnostics again, thanks!
Hi Noris,
I am experiencing almost daily crashes now with my Nucleus Plus. Most recent was today Sat June 6th at 2:05pm Est. Was streaming a Seattle Symphony album at the time. Approx 2-3 min before that I had added the album Two Door Cinema Club Lost Songs EP to my virtual collection using Roon. Wondering if you can relook things via diagnostics and see if anything looks amiss!
Thanks
Doug
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
Thanks for letting me know that timestamp. I have re-activated diagnostics mode for your Nucleus and and looking over the log. It looks like the Nucleus was performing a metadata update and then suddenly logs contact. I wonder if analysis of a file is causing an issue here, can you please try to disable both background and on-demand audio analysis (in Roon Settings -> Library) to see if that stops the crashes?
Ok will do! I also wonder if a network/losing contact issue…i noticed that after I installed the Eero mesh wifi to my verizon fios router in Dec that I had not disabled the wifi in the fios router…the nucleus is hard wired to the router and gets a blazing fast 999 up/down ethernet connection but the ipad remote on wifi may be getting literal mixed signals so I turned off wifi on the fios router on Sat so now only wifi from the eero for the ipad. Will see if that helps too (no crashes Sun or today so far)!
Thanks
Doug
Some type of crash at 2211 EST on Weds June 10th. Was literally just streaming music and not doing anything within Roon. Ipad was on the floor and I was reading a book! Not sure why these keep happening!
Thanks
Doug
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
Thanks for the additional timestamp. I took a look at the log and I do see it unexpectedly end, but it is not clear as to why yet. I suggest you perform a Backup of your database and then trigger an OS reinstall via the Web UI to see if that helps:
Ok no problem. Just did the database backup and OS reinstall. Went smoothly. Will let you know how it goes from here.
Thanks
Doug
Hi Noris,
Despite the reinstall of the OS it just crashed again/“lost connection” this time at 1614 EST shortly after favoriting an album by the Aurora Orchestra in Qobuz.
Thanks,
Doug
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
Thanks for letting me know, sorry to hear the OS reinstall didn’t resolve the issue. Next, I would like to suggest you try a fresh database to see if this issue is related to something in your library. Please use these instructions to do so:
- Create a Backup of your current Roon Database (you will need this for after the test)
- Stop RoonServer from running in Nucleus’s WebUI
- Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
- Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
- Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
- Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Database
- Verify if the same behavior occurs with a fresh database for a few days
- Restore the original database after test is complete
Ok, done! It is rescanning/rebuilding everything now…it crashed almost immediately and had to manually reboot the nucleus. It is going again…headed to bed and hopefully will be most of the way done in the morning if no more crashes.
Thanks
D
Hi @Douglasmaurer,
Has there been any change in behavior since setting up the fresh database?
Has the Nucleus stopped crashing?
I haven’t really pushed it hard yet but it hasn’t crashed so far. It is still analyzing my files. It’s only about halfway through with that process still has about 40,000 more files to finish. Once that’s done I will put it through its paces a bit more.
Thanks
Doug
