Cover Art Roulette

Why does this keep happening, in other words, this is not an isolated case and this happens quite often:

Local album in my library as soon in Roon:

The cover being displayed is the file “front_obi.jpg” (2.13MB) from the album’s folder":

:

However there is also the file “Cover.jpg” (992KB) in the album’s folder:

Roon defaults to the “best” image, what ever that means exactly (highest pixel count, best fitting aspect ratio, …). So I assume the 2.13 MB picture is “better” than the 992 KB one – it surely looks like it to me.

It always assumes larger=better. No comment

Not what the Roon guidelines (or whatever they are called) say. According to Google:

“Roon typically uses the highest-resolution cover art available, prioritizing locally stored files (folder.jpg, cover.jpg)”

So what has propriety: the larger file, regardless of the file name, or the file with the “proper” name, aka cover.jpg? If it is the former then the guidelines need to CLEARLY state that this the case.

Again, Roon always prioritizes the better (larger) image.
Prioritizing local over cloud image requires a tie in quality first.
This is by default. You are free to change the default though to any of the offered alternatives if you don’t like it.

If you choose “Prefer file” Roon will still choose the “best” image if you have more than one local image (including embedded). You have to choose a specific image if you want to break out of this prioritization (or delete all the other “better” images).
