I’m currently replacing an ageing Intel NUC6i3SYH that has been running ROCK reliably for many years.
As Intel no longer manufactures NUCs, I’m trying to understand what the current position is regarding newer hardware.
I’ve found a few threads showing people successfully installing ROCK on MSI Cubi NUC systems, but I couldn’t find a clear statement on whether these are now considered supported platforms or simply known to work.
Likewise, ASUS now manufactures the NUC range following Intel’s exit from the market. Are current ASUS NUC models (for example the NUC 13 Pro) regarded as the recommended successor to the older Intel NUCs for ROCK?
In particular I’d be interested to know:
Are MSI Cubi NUCs officially supported, or just community-tested?
Are ASUS NUCs now the preferred hardware for new ROCK installations?
Are there any current mini PCs that the Roon team actively recommend for new ROCK installs?

I noticed your reply in Lissa’s thread regarding the supported hardware list, but I wondered if you could clarify something in relation to my query.
The current documentation appears to recognise Intel NUCs and, for newer hardware, ASUS NUCs. However, MSI also now manufacture systems using the NUC branding and similar form factors.
When Roon refers to supported NUC hardware, is support intended to cover only the original Intel platform and its ASUS successor, or are MSI NUCs (such as the Cubi NUC 1M suggested by my insurer as a replacement for my lightning-damaged Intel NUC6) also expected to become supported?
I’m trying to understand whether I should stay with an officially supported Intel NUC11/ASUS NUC platform, or whether the MSI NUC is equally part of Roon’s supported roadmap.

The Roon Help pages certainly suggest that ASUS NUCs are considered the successors to the Intel NUC platform for newer ROCK installations, which is why I wanted to ask the question rather than dismiss the MSI suggestion out of hand if the hardware is technically very similar.
Equally, I didn’t want to accept the insurer’s suggested MSI replacement only to discover in the future that it falls outside Roon’s supported hardware, leaving me reliant on community support should a future ROCK update cause compatibility issues.
I’m therefore just hoping to understand Roon’s intended support policy before I make a final decision.
Yep. I think the current ASUS range is the NUC 16. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Roon’s guides to be updated for every new model, but it does seem to have been a couple of years since the hardware recommendations were last revised. In the meantime, there are also other mini PCs using the NUC name, which doesn’t help matters.
To be clear, Intel withdrew from manufacturing, which is why the devices now manufactured by Asus are supported by Roon (if on their approved list).
Any device not on the list is currently unsupported. Whilst new devices are likely to be added, this will most likely continue to be a subset of the of official NUC range, i.e., the devices Roon has actually tested.
Roon rarely comments on timescale, but given Roon OS 3.0 is in Early Access, an update may be due (although I have no insight in this regard.)
