Darkos lastest podcast on speakers

Have to say I found this podcast informative and lines up with how I have felt since switching to smaller speakers but didn’t know why. I really like the look of these Lintons and not a bad price at all.

Acoustically speaking expensive small speakers don’t make sense. WAF killed stereo.

Stereo (the way 99,99% of all music is recorded) has certain laws. They are very old but still work remarkably well. When you break them, you will never hear stereo, the reproduction of a “sound image” in your own room. Therefore the speakers need to see symmetrically placed boundaries on certain distances. So your speakers need a lot of room! The first 30% of your room has te be dedicated to your speakers. Don’t even place an audio rack between them. This means that there is no reason to have small speakers, you have all the room to even have 100ltr cabinets. No problem, the tweeter has to be on ear hight or above anyway.

I listened to it in the week and found myself nodding along in agreement as well.
Though small speakers with a sub can make sense for a smaller room, just not im a bigger room.

Yes it’s like the audio world lost the rough basics of reproducing music through speakers while talking about such minor things as the sound of an ethernet cable (lol).
Not much has changed since the 70-s (for sure physics hasn’t changed). We’re going back to the roots and that is a good thing. I enjoy 70-s and 80-s music through Roon on big three way 70-s speakers with 12” woofers and a dedicated mid. Big natural studio sound!
