Roon sometimes sees my DCS Rossini as “Roon Ready” (which is good), but often only sees the DCS as an Airplay device (which is bad). A reboot (power cycle) of the DCS brings it back under “Roon Ready”, which would lead me to believe I have a network or DCS related issue. Just checking here in case someone has encountered similar or has any thoughts?
Hi, I also have the same problem.
When I switch to a file with a different samplerate.
Not always.
dCS knows about this, they are working on it, they say.
Normally I would suspect a networking issue, but if the Rossini continues to be visible as an Airplay device then that’s likely not the case.
There is a bug in the dCS network firmware and this impacts both the Rossini and Vivaldi when mixed sample rate queues are played. The end result is that the network card gets into a locked state and the Rossini needs to be rebooted. This could be the issue that you’re seeing, but the fact that you’re still seeing the Rossini as an Airplay device makes me question that. In the testing that I’ve done all of the network functionality goes offline and I can’t connect via Roon or the dCS app. I haven’t paid attention to Airplay but based on the behavior I’ve observed it should go offline as well.
Next time this happens see if you can connect to the Rossini with the dCS app and access the configuration screens. Also, (just for grins) see if you can actually play to it via Airplay. If the dCS app works then your issue may be a networking gremlin.
With regard to the known firmware bug, setting the resync delay in Roon helps to delay the onset of the problem, but it will eventually happen. dCS is well aware of the issue and they’re working on updated code to address it.
dCS: we will fix this verry soon…60 days ago?
I had this the very first day after the firmware update.
And they did not after months of testing?
The Rossini DAC sounds very good but this is not good.
When the devices connect via Airplay all functions seem normal - tracks can be queued and played as one would expect.
This being a remote installation for a client I have limited visibility and limited ability to recreate the problem, which is really what I need to do as I’m mystified as to why Airplay would continue to function with a locked network card. A reboot of the DCS continues to clear the problem but I can’t help wondering that the problem is within the network (there are a pair of homeplugs between the lounge and the router). DCS and NAS (Roon Core) located in the lounge on a switch. But could a drop in the homeplugs knock the DHCP to the DCS for example, whilst leaving Bonjour running for Airplay.
Hmmmm…
DCS support back in the New Year so I’ll make direct contact then. Sincere thanks again to you good chaps within the Roon Community for pointing me in the right direction. Happy New year if we don’t correspond before!
Many thanks G997 - I shall try this as I’m visiting the client on Monday. DCS did advise that they’re continuing to test the firmware patch and hope to roll out soon.
There was a firmware update.
Everything ok here.
MQA? I heard different things.
Maybe there will be a software or hardware upgrade.
I think dCS will go for the best, the hardware upgrade.
