After 7 years, my RPi 3B+ died or at least it won’t load up roopiee anymore. Anyone have any trouble shooting advice or should i just bite the bullet and upgrade? Without the OS booting up, I can’t figure out a way to access the system to see where the problem might be (software or hardware).
If an upgrade is recommended, what’s the latest I should be looking for? I currently have the RPi with a Digital Out hat to feed my external DAC. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Did you try a different power supply?
Did you try a new micro SD card?
Did you try without a HAT?
Have you tried a different OS (like dietPi, or something)?
The unit is getting power (yes, tried a different supply)
No, I reflashed the MSD and it appeared in Windows Explorer and read fine
No, I did not want to take it apart, Not sure how that would help me determine of the main board is accessible
No, my tech skills only go so far. I’ve been using Roopieee for so long now that I don’t want to learn a new system.

I would upgrade to a Pi4. Most of us I think run the Pi’s 24/7 so I think the failure is inevitable.
Do you know if the Digital Out Hat would work on a RPi4?
What digital out hat are you using?
Some do not work on the newer Pis (in my case my HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro would not work on my Pi4s)
Allo Digione does for sure.
When loading the red/orange lights indicate “Health” what are they doing. A 1 sec pulse says OK , but check the user guide on the web site
I resurrected my Pi4 the other day , after loading Ropieee on a newly flashed card it needed a reboot to come on line ?

Reading a drive and being able to boot from it are not the same. Try a different SD card.
I have a Pi4 fitted with Allo DigiOne it works fine. . It was my daily streamer for several years before I upgraded
I was demoing a new headphone amp and needed a streamer so I made a fresh SD card , powered up and it worked fine. I am not sure what hardware rev the Allo Digone is , its quite old July 2018. It’s running as we “speak”.
Maybe Google AI is wrong ?

You likely have a HW 1.3 or newer. I have a Rev 1.2 and it will not work on Pi5 (and allegedly Pi4) as i discovered.
When i only got noise and some faint music in one channel from the Allo Digione i googled and found some report stating the same as i just experienced.
is there a way of telling other than pulling it apart ?
@Mike_O_Neill The rev 1.1 on the “board type” tell us you have an earlier revision. If that is what you were asking about?
I am not aware of any other way than looking at the underside of the Digione…
That is for the Raspberry Pi, not the HAT attached on top, sadly.
Since the communication between the Pi and the HAT is done over I2S on the GPIO, no handshake or identification is going on.. 
I’ll have to pull it apart to find out , I don’t think I’ll be able to see through the acrylic case
You can still buy a new Pi 3b if you need it for compatibility.
By deduction, you can be pretty sure your is a hw 1.3 (or later possibly). But, if you decide to, it’d be nice to ascertain that! 
Thanks Greg, but i regularly purchase Pi 3’s when they surface on my local thrift market, to me they sound better than the 4’s! 
So, i have my old Digione on a 3B+ already, working fine!
I think I have the same one. Wont know until I take it apart. Ordered a Pi 4 and new mSD. We’ll see what happens.
