Dead Tile in Listen Later when Streaming Services Remove Catalog Object [Ticket In] (ref#IT2H05)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· App interface looks or behaves oddly

Tell us what's going on

· Album that was removed from Tidal service is now stuck in Listen Later with no way to remove

Tell us about your home network

· Fritzbox 6690 Cable, unmanaged Netgear switches, but doesn't matter

And if I click it:

I’m using Early Access B1675 but I don’t think this is an EA problem unless an undocumented change was made.

Hi,

No idea if this would work, but have you tried resyncing Tidal in Roon’s Settings>Services?

It might cause the album to drop off from Listen Later.

I haven’t tried but it’s resynching automatically every x minutes anyway?

And the album as such is gone from my Roon, just the empty shell of the object remained in Listen Later. I’m not even opposed to it being there, after all I wanted to listen to it and now it’s unavailable, so this is somewhat valuable info to have.

But I think it’s a UI bug if it’s displayed without a way to remove it.

Hi @Suedkiez,

We’ll take a closer look. Thanks for the report.

Huh, I just noticed that on the phone UI there is still the … menu to open and I can remove it from here, I guess (haven’t tried because I wanted to retain the state in case you need it):

So I guess the problem is just on the PC UI not having such a menu.

Ha, I’m such an idiot. On the PC, I can go to More and then I have the menu as well. I totally didn’t think of that. Solved for me, but maybe it’s not totally obvious? I don’t know

Hey @Suedkiez,

Far from! I’ll take this moment to thank you once again for all that you do here for the community :raising_hands:

There is likely still some investigation needing to take place around the stale object still lingering after the content was removed. But no matter, I’m happy to see you were able to remove it on your end.

Thanks again for taking the time to report the behavior!

Thanks. Thinking about it, I do like to have an indication that something I wanted to listen to is gone. Maybe something else than a black box would be easier to understand

Hi @Suedkiez,

We’re opening this thread again and have removed the “Solved” marker because the team is treating this as a broken window in the Listen Later UX.

If Roon can’t map the object to another release because the streaming service removed it from their catalog entirely, the dead tile should have:

a) a more obvious indication that the track, artwork, and metadata aren’t available from upstream
b) an obvious pathway forward
c) or both!

We’re going to take a look at this to make it a little smoother. We’ll mark this as ticketed for now.

Thank you again.

The OP suggested I post my experience with LL as well as it relates to some difficulties deleting albums from LL.

When I want to remove an item by selecting (using my iPad) the 3 dot menu to the far right of the item in LL, most of the time it erroneously takes me to that album’s overview page, not the menu where I can select to remove it. It seems I have to touch the 3 dots in precisely the right tiny spot for the menu to pop up. Any variance from the perfect tiny spot and the album’s overview page comes up instead.

To illustrate, I can get to the LL page no problem either from the Room Home page as you described, or the Roon menu > LL.

When I try to select the 3 dots to the far right of the item in question, most of the time, this is what comes up instead of the menu I need

If I finally manage to touch the 3 dots precisely in the right tiny spot, I get the menu I need

In the past, when it erroneously took me to the album overview page, I would just touch the LL icon next to the Play Now button to remove it from LL. But in the case I just ran into where the album is no longer available, this work around doesn’t work.

There’s a need for a different treatment for Unavailable objects that both maintains precision but prevents confusion. We’ll share an update here once we have something conclusive about our next steps here. For now, this ticket is in the queue.

Thank you @Saturn94 for sharing your take and experience on this, as well. This feedback lives more in the button sizing/sensitivity region, but we’ll ensure that it gets attention.

Do you have this same problem with the three-dot menus on other pages in Roon?

Thank you. :slightly_smiling_face:

I haven’t noticed this issue with the three dot menus on other pages. :+1:
