Description of Issue
The desktop app shuts down while playing the first song that I play. I have tried different songs, difference external hard drives, still the same. My RAM usage is about 50%, so it’s not about a lack of RAM. I am worried it’s about the large database, which honestly, was the reason I chose Roon. To be clear, the entire application closes unexpectedly.
@Glenn_Platt, welcome to the Community. Is your Core computer the same one that is causing issues with shutting down, or is this another computer acting as a Roon Remote? If the latter, what are the specifications of the Roon Remote computer (brand, model, OS version)?
Do you know what version of Roon (the Build number) you currently have installed on your Core’s server, and what is installed on the Roon Remote?
Thanks. My first thought is to ensure your graphics driver is up to date. Can you confirm that? The behavior you are experiencing may be related to what other users have experienced with out of date graphics drivers.
I noticed that Microsoft has ended service for Win10 Enterprise 20H2 as of May 9 this year. Is it possible to consider updating to 21H2 or 22H2? Not sure if there are significant changes that impact Roon, but there may be some .NET functionality that Roon needs that is not installed (I’m guessing here, nothing definitive).
Sadly, the OS updates are controlled by the IT Dept where I work. I tried updating the drivers, but it crashed again after that. It was a good idea. They were out of date, but it crashed after 6 or 7 minutes of playing. Any other ideas? I appreciate the help.
How much storage do you have on your hard drive? Your library is tending towards the very large size, and I am wondering if you are limited in your hard drive capacity for the Roon database.
A brief look at diagnostics indicates that your Core hasn’t seen activity since you last posted. Have you had a chance to try clearing out space, and has that changed any of the symptoms you’re experiencing?
If you’re able to keep the Core online for a few moments without playing any music, secure diagnostics should have a chance to reach our team’s servers. You can try a fresh database in the meantime if you have a reliable recent Backup:
