· "Now playing" on iOS does not match what's actually playing. Roon server on Mac Mini, Roon app on iPhone and iPad, Orbi mesh network. All latest versions of software as of today. Starts playing fine, then after 10 minutes or so, the apps drifts behind or ahead of what's really playing. Opening Roon app on the Mac Mini that is the actual server shows same play progress as the iOS apps. Pausing and starting always results in "Roon lost control of the audio device" message. Starting once more works, playing from wherever the app thinks is right. How should I fix or debug this problem?

Just so we can ensure we’ve interpreted your post correctly, you also see the incorrect track displayed in Now Playing when you open Roon on the main server machine after you notice this condition on iOS?
Do you see this problem on both iPad and iPhone? Diagnostics indicate you might have a tablet and a phone in this setup.
For due diligence, although it’s not likely the source of this problem, ensure that you’ve unchecked “Disable IGMP Snooping” in your Orbi settings.
We’ll watch for your reply and proceed from there. We’ve requested automatic logs in the meantime.
Thank you for the quick response! I believe the problem is now solved.
“You also see the incorrect track displayed in Now Playing when you open Roon on the main server machine after you notice this condition on iOS?”.
Yes, I did. The Mac app (on the Roon server), an iPad app and an iPhone app were all three in sync with each other, but not with the music being played.
Uncheck “Disable IGMP Snooping”. I don’t have this setting. My Orbi was in Access point mode, which limits which settings I can access. My ISP modem can only be controlled through a web page with simple settings.
I have now put the ISP modem in bridged mode and the Orbi in router mode, which enables me to access more router settings for the Orbi. I found a setting called “Disable IGMP Proxying” which was checked, so I unchecked it.
Playing the same album that caused me problems earlier now seems to work as expected, with progress syncing across all clients. I have only played for a little while, but I would have expected sync errors by now, and it seems the network changes did the trick. Thank you!
Unfortunately, the issue popped up later tonight. It seems to appear when one track ends and the next begins. I managed to make a screen capture on my iPad showing the now playing suddenly skip forward and then continue with increased speed. The music continued playing normally while this happened.
This is a known defect with Sonos, and the cause is already identified: at a track change, Roon carries over the highest playback position it had seen from the previous track instead of resetting it, so the new track’s position starts from that stale figure. In your logs, it had reached 1,040 seconds while the track was 202 seconds long.
A fix for it is written and currently in review. We are not going to give you a release date, but this is not an open investigation. The same work also covers the “Roon lost control of the audio device” message you see when you pause.
We are going to close this thread here, since there is nothing further to diagnose and nothing more we need from you. Please keep an eye on the release notes. If the behavior is still there once the fix has shipped, please open a new thread and link back to this one, and we will pick it up with all of this context already in place.
