Devices not visible after latest Roon update (ref#38PKNU)

Hi, I have got myself into a right pickle with my Roon system and am now completely confused.
I have been running a multi-room Roon system for years and its been great.
Server - mac mini Late 2012 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16Gb RAM, 1TB SSD and a 1TB HDD for backup. Also fitted with a Douk DSD to feed digital audio to a Meridian surround sound controller.
Endpoint/Output 1) mac mini Mid 2011, 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1TB SSD and a 1TB HDD for backup
Endpoint/Output 2) iMac 27-inch, 2019, 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, 40 GB RAM, 1.03 TB Hybrid HDD
Endpoint/Output 3) mac mini Late 2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD and a 500GB HDD for backup, with a Douk DSD to feed digital audio to a Meridian surround sound controller.
Endpoint/Output 4) mac pro Late 2013, 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5, 64 GB RAM, 512 SSD and several external HDDs

While the mac mini server and the other mac minis were running OSX 10.11 El Capitan, the iMac was running macOS 14 Sonoma and the mac pro was running macOS 12 Monterey it all worked as expected. All the outputs on all the devices could be seen on a remote in Setup > Audio.

But all devices are now running macOS 15 Sequoia. The server mac mini is fine; it’s System Output, Built-in Output and the Douk DSD can all be seen in Settings > Audio. But none of the outputs on any of the other devices can be seen.

I’ve been through and made sure that Roon has local network access on each machine.

Some more reading implied I should have RoonBridge as well. So I’ve downloaded RoonBridge to every machine and again, made sure it has local network access. But still the only Audio outputs visible are on the mac mini running Roon Server.

All machines are running Roon version 2.0 (build 1483) and Roon Bridge version 1.8 (build 1125)

The older macs are running Sequoia using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher, the iMac runs it natively.
And the mac minis were rebuilt from the ground up using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher, so no hang over bits of software!

Any thoughts?

  • do I actually need Roon Bridge to use the built in outputs on a mac?
  • have I missed some setting that needs changing in Sequoia?

Thanks for any and all input!

If you have installed Roon on the devices you are using as “output devices,” Roon already includes the Roon Bridge program, so no other software is needed. At least, that’s how I understand it.

Yes, thats how it used to work when I had it all running under Catalina. I just wondered if it had changed recently, but it appears not.

Hi @mtroutphil,

Toggling on Local Network access in your MacOS System Settings → Privacy & Security is the most common solution to this issue.

The Roon team is investigating a constellation of issues with local and networked Zone control introduced with MacOS Sequoia 15’s more draconian network security. Please see here for updates if you’re continuing to have problems with intermittent device disappearance on Sequoia:
Roon on MacOS 15.0+ Sequoia: Audio Zones Disappear, Requiring Local Network Access Reset/Restart [Roon Investigating]

Restarting RoonServer or toggling off/on local network access in system settings are the common workarounds.

Hi @Adrian_Berry,

The Roon desktop application includes both the GUI and a RAATServer instance, which will communicate with your audio drivers to manage locally connected device output.

Your particular issue - local device discovery on Sequoia devices with OpenCore Legacy Patcher - we’ll continue to address here: Can I run Roon on macOS Sequoia and OpenCore Legacy Patcher

That worked! Thank you!
