Difficulty Upgrading RAM on Rev A Nucleus (ref#UC00KE)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I have a Rev A Nucleus and would like to upgrade the RAM to 8G. I purchased the recommended RAM, but the instructions are not helpful. First of all, there is no screws to remove a top cover - there are only screws to remove a bottom plate. Once I do that, I do not see the RAM that needs replaced - pretty much all that is visible is the SSD that I installed which holds my music. I searched Roon Forums, Roon Help, YouTube, the internet and could not find any other instructions on how to install this RAM. Could you provide complete instructions so that I can upgrade the RAM on this unit?

Does this help?

Perhaps - Is the + layout the same as Rev A?

Unfortunately, that I do not know, though I expect they would be similar regarding RAM installation.

Do you have an older Nucleus or the Nucleus One?

When you remove the bottom plate on an older Nucleus, it should look something like this. I’ve pointed and highlighted the memory chips.

I think Rev A is the oldest nucleus model and the interior does not look like that. The SSD is above the motherboard rather than next to it. I’ll post a photo when I open it up again.

Here’s a picture of the rev A:

You will have to remove:

  1. The bottom panel from the case
  2. The drive cage for better access

Then you can unclip the ram, tilt it 45 degrees and then u can take it out / replace.

Hi @Steve_Kerns,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Could you let us know if you’ve been able to disassemble your Nucleus following the instructions from @Nepherte and @Saturn94?

If you haven’t, please share some photos of your progress with the device.

This will help us assist you further.

Thanks!

Hard drive has been removed but I have no idea how to remove the “cage”

You can see two tiny black hexagon-screws holding the ssd. Those need to be removed. You can see the module that says ddr4 in the bottom left of the picture.. I guess that will be your ram-module

I think I got it. I also needed to unclip the red cable, then remove the 4 silver screws connecting the board that the ssd connected to. Then I gently lifted the ssd connection board (keeping the other cache connected) and there were two more black screws holding the ssd cage. Once those were removed as well as the other two black screws on the other side of cage, I was able to lift out the cage and swap them ram. Everything reassembled smoothly and everything is working correctly - and performing faster! Thanks to everyone’s assistance! Hey Roon, you should consider updating your instructions. Cheers!

“Cache” should be “cable”.
