Distortion when Playing Audio above 24/96

Core Machine (Operating system/System info/Roon build number)
iMac (Catalina 10.15.3/3.5 GHZ Quad-Core I&, 24GB RAM/Roon build number 528).

Network Details (Including networking gear model/manufacturer and if on WiFi/Ethernet)
Direct Connection via Thunderbolt to HDMI input on Marantz SR7013 Receiver.

Audio Devices (Specify what device you’re using and its connection type - USB/HDMI/etc.)
Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter plugged into Thunderbolt port; Adapter plugged into HDMI Cable and leads to HDMI input on Audio Receiver

Description Of Issue
When playing any music audio above 24/96 (ie 24/192) all music sources are distorted and garbled using the Roon software. Roon is showing the signal path as a Loseless path and audio receiver is showing audio is being received as 24/192.

If I use another software to transport the audio for example Plex using the same signal path and hardware (ie. Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, HDMI cable to receiver) the audio plays perfectly and the receiver is showing a lossless path (ie. 24/192).

Since I’m able to use the same hardware to play the audio files I don’t feel the hardware, cabling is at issue but some setting I may have overlooked in Roon. Any assistance you can provide would be most helpful.

Thank-you.

Hello @Wilbur_Allen,

Plex doesn’t include support for “Exclusive Mode” in the macOS client, so it is not a valid point of comparison with Roon based on your current settings.

If you would like to see if Roon is able to play without issue using the same audio path as Plex you can try disabling “Exclusive Mode” in the Device Setup screen in Roon.

I’ve scheduled testing with the QA team regarding the distortion when using a Thunderbolt -> HDMI Adapter and high resolution playback.
