Do router and ethernet cables affect sound quality?

Simply as it is.

Some of the newer ethernet cables carry the chassis ground end to end. In our industrial automation projects we need to disconnect one end due to ground loops affecting not the ethernet but other chassis grounded equipment. In my audio system I use home made cat 5e to ensure no ground loops. Induced rfi is another thing.

It really is…I’m not sure why it’s seems to be that difficult to grasp for some :ear:šŸ¤·šŸ»

No, I do not grasp how router and Ethernet cables affect sound quality. Do you?

Nope…I dont know about router but the switch, ethernet cable and the new FARAD PSU I have for my switch have done in my set up.

Those Farad PSUs are pretty great from what I have heard.

Have you googled it?

How about it @moderators?

!700+ entries and the same round and round.

The OP’s original question is as answered as it’s going to get.

Indeed, it’s made quite an impression added to my switch…and it’s a clear difference

Wow!
You asked for some test.

Nice to see a controlled test, not for me personal but some people seem to care about them.

Does it really matter? Naysayers will continue to say what they say. Same thing with measurements. Show them measurements… nah… meaningless, beyond human hearing thresholds, irrelevant, tests were done wrong, etc. etc. Nothing does it, no matter what.

You are right, it doesn’t matter as the hobby seems split between Music lovers and equipment and tweaking lovers who also like music.
They are both valid but never the Twain shall meet :joy:

Yes, I’ve done a good bit of research on the matter, including a degree in computer science and working with communication standards for 20 years. Still, I don’t have my answer.

If you have some good references on the topic, I would be happy if you share them.

I see your point, but as long as we keep it civilized and respect each other, it’s better to have one long thread on the topic, else new ones will pop up all the time.

As long as someone sees a value in the discussion, for every different reason, it should not be closed – but everyone is free to mute it.

A lofty goal for some.

I doubt it. Pretty meaningless. ā€œI don’t get itā€ , " I do, sounds improved". Could go on for years…

Man, we al know that a degree in Computer Science (even a Computer Science/Electronic PhD from MIT. Stanford) does not help at all with this specific topic. !!!

Some claim hearing the differences, some does not, let’s leave at that.

However, I suspect that there are some kind of expectation bias, or even placebo if you claim that you can hear the differences.

Bonus: If I am a doctor, can I cure cancer? Or a simple flu virus like Covid-19? You tell me

In summary: Yes, no, maybe, maybe not.
