Do we need High-Res & DSD files?

Quite a good video from Hans this week about the relevance of High-Res & DSD files:

Thought provoking…

I watched it yesterday and thought it one of his better non review videos in a while.

I thought his comments about the digital reconstruction filter were especially pertinent. In my mind, this opinion is supported in my own experience. We now have DAC’s where there is little, if any sonic differences between the RB and HR files of the same music.

Mhm, I play now some music via cheap mini streamer / airplay protocol: no bit perfect here, no hires here, even not lossless (per se) and… with fantastic, mid range, DAC/AMP on path I have all what I want. No differences with my multibit expensive route or very, very expensive multi D/S uberDAC with high-end hp AMP. When I play DSD or hi-res I feel the same via more costly tools. Not more. Same. Change to Spotify (cheap path) and… feel the same. So?

On head HD-650 and DCA Ether CX. Good cans, no ■■■■ there.
