Many albums that I have added to my library have transformed into wretched deluxe editions

Have you made any edits to this content in Roon?

Description of the issue

How does Roon handle albums from Qobuz that have multiple versions, especially those that are sometimes labeled with “expanded edition” or “deluxe edition”? Does Roon automatically prefer deluxe versions of albums over the non-deluxe/original versions? Or maybe Qobuz is to blame? My Roon library is littered with these deluxe versions. I hate them so much. I don’t want to listen to an album with several (usually bad) versions of the same song. I don’t want to hear interviews or rough cuts or crappy live versions. For example, Mercury Rev’s All is Dream album, which I added to my library, has 10 tracks. The deluxe version that somehow has replaced the original version in my library has 53 tracks.
I cleaned these deluxe editions out of my library awhile ago, but they’re back somehow.

If you simply click Add to Library for the whole album, it will prefer one version, which is the one it displays. This will be the one with the higher resolution or, indeed, is often an extended version (maybe it prefers the one with more tracks).

But you can always choose and add another version. Once a version is chosen, Roon replaces nothing I’m aware of. It never ever replaced a primary version I had already selected

I have had the regular Public Enemy versions in my library since the beginning, and they are still primary for me, and haven’t been switched over to extended.

Is this a Roon export to Excel in your screenshot? Does it correspond to the versions and primary selections that you really have in Roon? Can you paste a screenshot of one of these and their version tab?

(Do you have the „Show hidden tracks and albums“ setting on or off?)

Qobuz often removes the original version and replaces it with a ‘remastered’ version, often totally destroying the sound. Nothing Roon can do about this.

Thanks for responding. I think that this behavior (at least in some cases) might be caused by Soundiiz, which is how I transferred my Tidal library to Qobuz. I had forgotten about this until just now (how embarrassing).
I just ran a test from Soundiiz to import Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet to my Qobuz library: Soundiiz lists 5 versions of this album but doesn’t describe them beyond artist and album name. I imported the version at the top of Soundiiz’ list and it showed up in Qobuz (and Roon) as the deluxe version. Maybe Soundiiz chooses the deluxe version for multiple-versioned albums for whatever reason.
I will clean out all of the deluxe versions from my Qobuz library and will monitor the situation. Maybe this was all my own fault.

Yes but they didn’t replace the original Fear of a Black Planet by just the Extended Version

Seems the most likely explanation and good to know
