Does the New Roon Bridge Affect QNAP NAS Installations?

I recently went through the process of setting up the new Roon Server on my QNAP NAS, and it took quite a bit of effort to get everything working properly. Because of that, I’m a little hesitant about the upcoming Roon Bridge release.

QNAP runs on a UNIX-based system, but its platform and setup are quite different from others, and I couldn’t find much information about QNAP in the release notes.

Will the new Bridge require any QNAP-specific installation steps, or could there be compatibility issues that users should be aware of?

It’s a lightweight endpoint for devices that shall work just as output. I think that RoonServer has basically all of bridge functionality included within it. The Linux server page says, for instance: Two packages are available for Linux: Roon Bridge and Roon Server. There is no real purpose to running both Roon Bridge and Roon Server on the same machine, since both provide identical access to audio devices. That said, doing so should not cause any problems. That makes sense. As RoonServer already includes the necessary Bridge functionality, running both seems unnecessary.

The lightweight endpoint approach still sounds useful for devices that are only meant for audio output.
