Drop-outs causing grief!

HI all,

System is Antipodes DX Server running Roon Core and music stored locally on 2TB SSD drive.

Connected by USB to Bryston BDA2 DAC.

Playing 16/44 files ripped mostly by JRiver.

Getting fairly regular drop-outs, about every 2-3 minutes while playing.

Tried re-sync delay. Seems to make a difference only in that it changes when the drop-outs happen, but it does not solve the issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I’m going to go out on a limb here, being ignorant but hoping to help…

Did not realize that your DX actually ran a Roon core, as you describe. If that’s the case - IMO - this is a question you want to take to Antipodes. With a direct to DAC connection you describe, playing music stored locally, I suspect there is no reason why you should be experiencing drop outs unless there is a server side issue.

Folks, please correct me if I’m off base.

I wonder whether the DX has the grunt to run Roon. As always with PC’s dressed as audiophile hi-fi their website is silent on the specs that matter.

“I can tell you that the Roon guys look to us to write very efficient code, and that will help. But they do tend to assume a lot of processing resource is available and that Roon Server and Roon Ready will be on different devices. I suspect the good clean code plus RAAT is a lot of the reason for good sound.”

Mark Jenkins of Antipodes in this DAR review.

It does make you wonder what Mark regards as “a lot of processing resource”.
