Drop-outs playing radio through Roon

Description of Issue

When listening to radio (all stations behave the same), I experience very frequent drop-outs. Music will stop and I have to restart the stream in the Roon app for the music to start again. This is becoming very annoying. Dropouts occur randomly during the day. I have not yet experienced drop-outs playing music from Qobuz nor Tidal to the Hegel.

@support,

I extracted a part of the logs around the time, the radio stream was stopped this afternoon. Can you identify what happened? Interesting is that I had my iPhone playing the exact same radio station through Apple’s Music-app, and that stream just continued to play while the radio stream through Roon on my Bluesound Pulse Mini was stopped…

I’m trying to find out what I can do to prevent this from happening. Hopefully you might be able to see what went wrong (and goes wrong very very often)

@beka can your team have a look at the log-extract please?
Your help is much appreciated!

@support @dylan I would appreciate some feedback on the log extract

Thanks
Marc

Hey @Marc_Lens,

Thanks so much for letting us know of this and for sharing such detailed information! I’m sorry for the delay in replying - we’re working on shorter response times

If you have TIDAL or Qobuz, could you please let us know if you experience the same issue, or if it’s just with live radio?

In the meantime, I’ve moved this thread into our technical team’s queue, so they can take a closer look at your logs

Hi @Marc_Lens

It’s hard to say just from that trace — Does the same behavior occur if you play to a different endpoint?

How frequent are these?

Could you try to reproduce on System Output of a remote device?

Hi @beka thanks for your reply. Drop-outs only occur on live radio (all stations). What I don’t understand is that:
1/ when the dropout occurs on one of my devices playing live radio through Roon, the same radio stream plays on on my iPhone (playing through Apple’s Music app), so a dodgy radio stream does not seem to be the issue or it should have also dropped out on my iPhone
2/ furthermore, also strange, is that when streaming live radio to 2 devices (not grouped!) in Roon, I had cases where the stream continues on 1 device and is dropped on the 2nd device. When I try to restart the stream on the 2nd device, I get an error message that the radio station cannot be found (while it is playing on the first device)

I’m not saying it is not network related (although nothing has changed in my setup since last year), it is very strange behaviour from the Roon software.

Regards
Marc

Hi @dylan, yes drop-outs of live radio occur on all devices. Dropout occur randomly, not after fixed length.

What do you mean by system output of a remote device?

Thanks
Marc

Hi @Marc_Lens,
They are talking about a MAC, PC, iphone, … which you also use as a remote for the roon core.
They want to avoid trouble from roon ready gadgets - although it’s a standard question.

Thanks @Peter_Kuehnel for clarifying. I know what I have to do today :grinning:

@Dylan did some more testing this morning. Dropouts occur randomly throughout the day - in one case live radio stream was stopped on the Bluesound while radio stream on iPad kept playing (both through Roon). And a bit later, it was vice versa - radio stream on Bluesound kept playing while it stopped on the iPad.

In any case, I think a bad quality live radio stream can be ruled out. It would not make any sense as then it should stop on whatever device is playing.

If you want me to extract some more data from the logs, let me know.

Thanks
M.

Hi @Marc_Lens

Can you make a note of the next few times it happens and share those with us? We’ll enable diagnostics and look at these instances. Thanks!
