Dropouts with HiRez Material on Grimm Audio MU1 (ref#5CW7PX)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I have a Grimm Audio MU1 and I stream using Qobuz. The MU1 can be attached to the router directly as stated by Grimm. I also have an audiophile switch. Both ways give the same results in respect to getting dropouts with HiRez material. I managed to perceive HiRez tracks that I transferred onto the internal hard disk drive. Playing these tracks also gives dropouts. As soon as I stream tracks with 44,1 kHz-16 bit chances that I'm plagued by these dropouts reach zero. Also 44-16 tracks from internal disk gives no problems.
Most of the times when I turn on the MU1 it takes some time before the first dropouts appear, say one or two hours. I switched the ethernet cables, I contacted Grimm. They updated a cable in the machine and some mysterious particle (crystal something, they would not specify) was replaced. The dropout issue was over. If the dropouts would occur again, it should be caused by the network, they said. And after a few months the phenomenon started again. KPN (My supplyer of internet) checked and everthing was normal. So I got in contact with a forum of users on which KPN also has a technical guy surveying. He helped me change two settings in my router/modem. It did not help. So... what's next? One person reading my posts is helping me out, by trying my MU1 at his place. He'll keep it at his home for at least three weeks, so that will check if the network is to blame or not. In about a month I will have it back... But I still write to the technicians of Roon. Maybe they will come up with some useful information. Thanks for reading... Maestro57

Here the same problem, the difference is I use Tidal

Also a lot of dropouts by using internet radio.

Hi Eric,

These dropouts drive me crazy. By now I understand you are Dutch, like I am.

Hoi Johan,

En we schrijven ook op het kpn forum

Inderdaad. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Johan_Mak,

The dropouts we’ve identified in your logs are a result of an upstream content delivery network problem with the Qobuz API. Our team has escalated the issue to Qobuz and this issue can sometimes manifest even outside Roon with Qobuz content.

Here is the tracking thread where we will be providing updates as we receive them from the Qobuz team:

In the meantime, we will share your report with Qobuz so they are aware another user is affected. Thank you!

@Eric_Besemer, the above issue not does affect Tidal content, so it’s quite likely you’re facing an entirely separate problem (and likely more immediately resolvable). Please reach out here in a dedicated tech support request and we’ll promptly follow up.

Hello Connor,
Thank you for responding on my thread. So it is up to Qobuz to clean up this drop-out-mess. I hope you ‘shouted’ loud enough to wake up the responsible guys at Qobuz’s.
The dropouts hardly appear when an album is available as 44 kHz-16 bit. As soon as I pick the same album or track with for instance 64 kHz-24 bit and higher the dropouts tend to pop up.

Anyway… I will have to take a peek now and then at some other thread…This one": ‘Roon won’t play track from Qobuz, gets stuck on progress bar’… This title does not apply the problem I meet, but anyway, I will look now and then.
If I did not have bought myself an more than one year presriction I would have gone back to Tidal. (I liked the sound quality of Qobuz a little bit more.)

I will hold on tight, teeth tight on each other.

With kind regards,

Johan Mak
