Hi guys looking for some help with a 3rd zone. I’m setting up my garage and want to have the ability to play dsd 512 on the cheap. Zones 1 and 2 in the house are Lumin.
I have a rasberry pi4 in the house and a rme adi dac 2 in another zone. So if I take the rasberry to the garage, does anyone know what device I need to play dsd 512 without the the conversion to pcm?
What is cheap?
I would suggest, with your current setup, switch it to do conversion to pcm, listen and compare, and decide if pcm is really unacceptable in the garage.

Yes I should have been more specific. Its an older system with a Yamaha rx397 and old jbl speakers, I think called arena…I bought both of them used, years ago and the speakers were in rough shape…I may have spent 30 bucks on them and about 70 or 80 on the amp. I have them collecting dust in the garage for probably 5 or 6 years.
So given the location and condition of the components, the cheaper the better. …ok, so 200 or less…perhaps its not possible.
As for the format, I just want the same as other rooms. Yes, it’s a tad odd, I admit. And admitting to my perhaps ocd , I would prefer the native ability.
I know with the rme adi 2 that I own, it is able to do native dsd 256, but once I send it a stream from the rasbeerry pin, the only way to get it to work is to covert to pcm in roon. And the rme would be super overkill in the garage anyway
Again, other than being anal, I have no reason for wanting this.
So yeah that’s me! I’m in love with Audio and she don’t love me back! Lol
Any suggestions for a dac that can receive the dsd from the Rasberry pi4 without the conversion first? And of course given my use case, a sub 200$ one
Perhaps I’ll end up doing that. And as I explained in my other post, I just want the dsd cause I’m anal. And given my specific use case, cost might be my number 1 deciding factor.

No. RME does native DSD256 only on Windows.
From Linux you have to use DoP.
I can also confirm that Lumin U1 MINI DSD256 DoP output to RME ADI-2 Pro FS works correctly.
