DSD and PCM music files

Hi, I listen to a mix of DSD and PCM file with Roon (passed to HQPlayer before sending to DAC). I notice that PCM files play much louder than DSD files. Is this generally due to PCM files mastered louder or something having to do with the file type itself? Without having to resort to volume leveling (I like to have minimal processing if possible), is it possible to reduce the sound level of all PCM files I play? Thanks!

I found an option in HQPlayer to increase DSD volume by 6 db and that did the trick! Passing it along in case it’s helpful to others.
