Hello,
I’m using an unrecognized D/A (Schiit) with a Roon ready Streamer. The Dac is pcm only. Currently, I’m unable to play dsd titles because they are unconverted to PCM. Is there a way to force Roon to convert all DSD to PCM?
Thanks,
Gino
If the DAC doesnt support DSD then roon would automaticallly downsample to PCM as it should report it back unless your using SPDIF? USB it should get this info from the DAC. Show your device settings for the zone. DSD Playback Strategy should be set to PCM. You may need to set your Max PCM in the advanced section.#
I’m using the Eversolo USB out as a streamer.
That’s because Roon can’t get info back from the Eversolo as it’s the Roon endpoint it’s sending to and will base what it can do on its specs not your dac. The Eversolo handles Native DSD so it’s sending it as such. It has no idea about the ongoing dac in this type of setup it will assume your using the devices inbuilt DAC.
You will need to use Muse Roons DSP engine and configure Sample Rate conversion manually under custom to resample each DSD format to a specific pcm res.
Hmm, strange. Other non-Roon Ready dacs show up via the Eversolos’ streamer usb out, and I have used streamer only devices in the past that have shown the endpoint as the dac via the streamer…
It will if its a pure streamer without a DAC. The Eversolo is a Streaming DAC, certified Roon Ready for its internal DAC. Roon will show its using the USB out but thats as far as it goes the Eversolo doesnt feedback in this scenario to Roon about the capabilities of an ongoing DAC. If you follow what I said you will get it to output DSD as PCM.
You can’t change the DAC it’s a Roon Ready streaming DAC and Roon only sees the Eversolo as such it’s not like using Roon Bridge or direct connected to the Server. Roon does not see an outgoing DAC when connected to streaming DACs like this only its inbuilt DAC. It may well be a limitation of the Android os it runs.
It’s IMHO not a limit in Android (I’ve an Eversolo DMP-A6 and a Rose RS250 both with external DACs and with the Rose you’ve all the options in Roon in setting DSD, max PCM,…), but in the implementation by zidoo/eversolo.
The options to set max pcm and DSD should be in advanced for either, DSD strategy is in the top section. You should be able set those for the Eversolo not the DAC. But it won’t help here as it’s a conversion and DSD strategy helps here but only shows up if the dac is communicated to Roon.
My FiiO SR11 doesn’t show the dac attached to it like your Rose does and it’s Android as well and is a pure streamer no DAC. The settings are for it not the attached dac . Oddly the FiiO only outputs DoP for DSD, yet it accepts Native DSD in from Roon. The device does the conversion.
I guess it’s down to the manufacturers to implement all these features. I know Wiims don’t either and they are Linux. Yet another part of RR programme that’s not standardised. Isn’t the whole point of certification is that they all work the same?
On the eversolo you can’t set something for DSD.
Both (Rose and Eversolo) are streamers with a DAC included and using Android.
Yes that doesnt help the op here though as it still passed through DSD.
I would think there is a setting on the Eversolo itself to send PCM only to its outboard DAC? As this would come up if not using Roon.
No, you can (sorry, was wrong in my last posting) set in the DMP-A6:
I’m using primarily it with HDMI out and DSD as multichannel:
This works without problems and you’ve set in the DMP-A6:
but not in Roon’s Muse.
For USB, there are also the settings in the DMP-A6:
→ set here to convert DSD to PCM and then it should work.
