Hi all! I’m Using a Rock Core running on a NUC. I just Adquired an album from from Octave Record in DSD256 and both mi DP-750 and D1100 cannot be configured to take DSD256 so Roon is downsampling it. I don’t have the option to select 256 on my DAC preferences. What am I missing?
Thanks!
PS: Both DACs are connected via USB
Likely the inbuilt DAC does not support higher than DSD128 on Linux. Check with Accuphase Roon will only make available what the system reports back it supports and many don’t seem to bother much with making them work with Linux. Many DACS have limited DSD support on Linux if they don’t follow USB Audio Class 2 compliance fully. As it looks to require a driver for Windows looks like it might not work on Linux likely it doesn’t.

Thanks! This is a dedicated Rock Core running on a NUC. I assumed any requiered driver might be included. So Technically the only possible option is to plug my DAC into a Windows machine?
Also my D1100 form McIntosh will not take anything above 128

Same caveats apply. Rock is based on Linux there are no drivers for USB audio on Linux it relies on devices to be fully compliant with USB Audio Class 2 . Some manufacturers release patches to the Linux kernel for their devices or the community does to fix bad implementations but it’s not guaranteed and may not be available to device on older kernels. It’s up to manufacturers to properly support Linux. Most do but lots of these Bedouin stuff don’t fully and it always comes with caveats.
Does nucleus come with support?
The rock is exactly the same as a nucleus, just some hardware patches for the box it’s running on.
Nucleus is the same as Rock or any other server based on Linux. As I said this is your dacs issue with LInux Operating systems. It requires Accuphase and McIntosh to fully embrace thier products on Linux and adopt full compliance, nothing Roon can do about it. Talk to them or switch to an OS they do support.
Here is a review of th McIntosh and it has the same issues and they mention it as to do other reviews, you nedd Windows and McInitoch ASIO driver for DSD256 as you likley do on the Accuphase. Not all DACS are created equal I am afraid.
All my software related issues were related to Windows and the McIntosh (SaviAudio) custom driver. Using Mac and Linux based devices, the DAC worked fairly well, but couldn’t play DSD256 due to lack of native DSD support on Mac and the Linux kernel for this DAC.
