Hello @latenighter23,

Thanks for sharing your concern.

To help us investigate this, could you please provide the **exact date and local time** when this issue last occurred?

Having a precise timestamp will allow us to focus on the relevant section of the diagnostic reports from your Mac to see what was happening at that moment.

Thanks.

I first noticed it on this previous Sunday and it’s happened everyday since. I tried it earlier today and had the same result. I’m sorry I can’t provide a more precise timestamp as you requested.

@latenighter23,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We have reviewed the diagnostics from your computer, and everything appears to be functioning normally on Roon’s side. The logs show that Roon is streaming audio successfully, and your DAC is actually sending a confirmation back to the software that it is receiving the signal.

Since Roon “thinks” music is playing, this strongly suggests the issue lies within the DAC’s internal settings or how it handles specific formats.

Recommended Steps:

1. In Roon, go to Device Setup for your DAC and look for DSD Playback Strategy.

2. Please verify the physical settings or the driver control panel for your DAC to ensure it is set to the correct input and sample rate mode to accept the stream from your Roon Server.

Please let us know if adjusting these settings restores the audio for you.

Thanks.

the upsampling restored as if nothing happened late Sunday night. Prior to that selecting the upsample button muted all sound. Is there an easier way to reach you guys if the problem happens again? It was happening for about 10 days straight prior to this.

@latenighter23,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Am I understanding correctly that the problem has **resolved itself** on your end? If so, that is great news.

If the issue does happen to return in the future, please just **open a new support thread** exactly as you did this time, and we will be happy to investigate further.

Additionally, I want to apologize for the delay in our responses. Our support team operates **Monday through Friday** , so replies can take a bit longer over the weekend.

Thanks again for your patience, and enjoy the music.

the situation resurfaced saturday feb 14 at 11:53p ET and is still happening. This is after it paused and resumed function for some time. Using the upsampling mutes the music to where it mutes the sound.

I am following up on my previous ticket regarding the DSD upsampling failure I’ve experienced since the recent macOS update. I have performed extensive troubleshooting and can confirm that the issue is not with my DAC hardware.

Please see the technical verification steps I have completed:

- **Hardware Handshake is Functional:** My DAC successfully handshakes and displays the correct carrier frequencies (it shows **176.4 kHz** when upsampling to DSD64 and **352.8 kHz** when upsampling to DSD128). This confirms the USB bus, cable, and DAC receiver are fully functional at the required bandwidth.

- **Bit-Transparency Failure:** Despite the correct sample rates being received by the hardware, the DAC does not switch to DSD mode. I have manually verified in **macOS Audio MIDI Setup** that the output sliders are set to **0.0 dB (1.0)** and that no system-level “Sound Recognition” or “Voice Isolation” features are active.

- **Roon Configuration:** I have tested with **Exclusive Mode ON** , **Fixed Volume ON** , and confirmed that the **DSD Playback Strategy** is set to **DoP**.

- **Regression Timing:** This issue began immediately following the latest macOS update.

 **Conclusion:** Because the DAC is receiving the correct sample rate “container” but failing to recognize the DoP markers, it is clear that the macOS update has introduced a regression in **Core Audio bit-transparency**. The problem is a software-level interference in the bit-stream delivery between the OS and Roon’s RAAT, not a hardware failure of the DAC.

Please escalate this to your technical team to investigate compatibility issues with the current macOS build.

Hi @latenighter23,

Thank you for your patience and for the detailed investigation you’ve been conducting on your end.

After reviewing the technical details and current reports regarding the latest macOS version (26.2 Tahoe), it appears that the issue with audio muting during upsampling is actually occurring at the operating system level. Specifically, it relates to how the updated macOS audio engine handles high-sample-rate streams from third-party applications.

Because this is a core OS-level behavior introduced in the latest update, it isn’t something that can be resolved via a software patch within Roon itself. At this stage, the best course of action is to report this behavior directly to Apple Support or via the Feedback Assistant, as a fix will likely need to come through a future macOS maintenance update.

In the meantime, the only reliable workaround to maintain audio playback is to keep the DSP upsampling disabled until Apple addresses the processing issue in Tahoe.

Thank you for finally acknowledging that this is a software compatibility issue with macOS Tahoe and not a hardware failure of my DAC, as was previously suggested.

While I understand that macOS 26.2 has introduced regressions in Core Audio, I disagree that there is ‘nothing’ Roon can do. Other high-end media players successfully implement custom buffer handling or ‘Integer Mode’ overrides to maintain bit-perfect delivery when the OS mixer interferes.

As a subscriber, I expect Roon’s RAAT protocol to be robust enough to maintain its ‘Exclusive Mode’ integrity even when the host OS undergoes updates. Please keep this ticket active and provide an internal tracking number for this compatibility bug. I would also like to know if this is being addressed in the current Early Access (Beta) builds, as ‘waiting for Apple’ is not a proactive solution for a premium service.
