i have a NUC based on Intel Core i5-6500T with 8Go RAM and 128Go SSD for OS.
Windows 11 and Roon server installed. Everything works fine for basic multiroom playback (i have 4 speakers, 3 upnp and 1 raat).
I would like to introduce some DSP (room correction filter mainly).
Does my config have enough power to process flawlessly? Which DSP are too limited with my config?
If i switch to Linux OS (Gentooplayer), is it better?
Roons processing speed depends on a number of variants and this is machine and environment specific. You just have to try it and see how it handles it. If you get lower than 1.5 for the highest sample rates you are approaching the danger zone. Anything above that and your ok.
Things to consider that affect this speed.
Single core clock speed
Local files or network file transfer
network in general, Wi-Fi can slow it.
Devices network prowess
What DSP you are applying
Sample rates used
Number of taps in the filters.
Number of Zones playing at the same time
That question is most easily answered by yourself.
Apply your desired DSP and see if processing speed drops below 1.5x
If so, you are on the verge of what your setup can do.
But, it also depends on what kind of audio endpoint you are using and what source material you are using etc.
Upsampling a DSD128 file to DSD512 and applying Convolution at the same time is a whole different ballpark than a straight PCM44 to DSD512 with volume levelling as an example.
As below click on the coloured dot in the now playing section this opens Roon’s signal path, Processing Speed is at the top. If it’s above 100 it wont show up, the lower the speed the harder Roon is working and taking more resources.
