DTS tracks not playing correctly (STATIC SOUND)

Trying to play *.wav DTS tracks through ROON, and all I get is a STATIC sound.
Tried to convert the files to other formats, but it still refuses to play them correctly.
the tracks work fine on every other program with my DAC just not with Roon.

Has anyone solved this issue?

Thanks, Eyal.

As far as I know Roon has no support for DTS.

Are you trying to play them to some device that has a DTS decoder? If you play with no DSP from Roon applied whatsoever, so they are bit-perfect, does the playback device recognize them as DTS or as regular PCM signal?

I don’t really know what DTS is, and this may not be a helpful response at all. However, I have the same “static“ problem when I play DSD files and I have DSP applied. When I turn DSP off, it works beautifully. Maybe that’s a similar problem?

I’ll try switching off DSP, but the dsp is what makes my headphones sound the best…

Anything that alters the DTS signal, such as any DSP/volume leveling/headroom management, etc in Roon before it gets to the equipment with DTS decoding ability (usually an AVR or Pre/Pro; Roon cannot decode DTS) will destroy the DTS signal and will result in the hissing you are hearing.

Thanks. Wish they would solve it somehow. Because I can EQ the signal in different softwares.

Ain’t happening. You can only process DTS in or after a DTS decoder, and it is very doubtful that Roon will ever license one for use in Roon…

It would be nice if Roon added DTS (and Dolby) decoding, but that’s something that was requested years ago and never happened. :frowning:

Here’s what I do. I take DTS files and use a PC software program called Total Audio mp3 Converter from hootech.com to convert DTS to FLAC. Don’t let the program name fool you: the conversion is lossless and the resulting FLAC file is playable in Roon in 5.1 format, to which you may apply volume, convolution and any other filters you want. No more reliance on a prepro or other processor to decode the DTS for you. JCR

Thank you! Will definitely try that. Hope it has a Mac version too.

I’ve done the same except on the couple DTS CD titles I have that I ripped before I knew of software available to convert DTS to multichannel FLAC.

You can also use Foobar to do the job. Works great for me.

For macOS I use the static builds of ffmpeg for conversions such as this. In fact I just used ffmpeg to convert a 5.1 channel DTS album to FLAC last month.

can you share the procedure of doing this.

First make sure you have DTS decoder installed in Foobar. You can check this under “File/Preferences/Components”

If not, go to the Foobar website and search for DTS decoder, donwload and install it.

After that open your wav DTS files, right klick on the files, choose “Convert to” and klick on the dots below.

Choose Flac as output and go back to the previous window
Flac 5
klick on "convert, choose your directory and you are done.
