Hey Everyone,
Today’s Early Access release includes improvements across Roon and ARC, including a new way to customize how your playlists are displayed, and an improved and overhauled playback experience when using Chromecast.
This release also includes upgrades to Roon’s drag-and-drop functionality, waveform display for streaming content, Live Radio, handling for Classical compositions, scrobbling, performance, and more. As usual, bug fixes are a core part of this release, as we continue improving overall client stability and address complaints raised by the Early Access group and the Community.
This release also includes several improvements for RoonOS 3.0 users that will be needed for the next RoonOS 3.0 EA release, coming soon.
Custom covers for local playlists
Today’s release lets you customize the display of playlists in Roon and ARC! You can visit the edit the screen or hover over the playlist image to pick a new custom image that matches your playlist’s mood. Note this only be available for your Roon playlists, and the edit functionality will only be available in the Roon Desktop client:
Google Cast Improvements
The new Roon EA build includes improvements for Google Cast device discovery on your network, along with overall stability improvements. If you have Chromecast Audio devices, Google Home, or other devices that play via the Google Cast protocol, please watch for stability issues like zones disappearing mid-playback, device duplication, etc.
Waveform display support for streaming service tracks
Previously, the waveform data was available for local tracks which went through the audio analysis, but your Roon Server will now generate waveforms from streaming tracks as well to provide a more consistent listening experience:
