I use JRiver Media Center 30 to manage my files and playlist, it’s much easier than trying to use Roon. I copy all of the files and playlist to the external drive I use on the Roon and everything is good.

Same here , I have a PC with lots of HDDs , the Audio HDDs are the master I adjust metadata with JRiver etc then I copy to the internal SSD in my NUC

I also use JRiver to rip and convert audio formats as well. It does it all.
