Describe the issue

I'm getting an endless "rescanning files" loop (stuck on 1/29, with number increasing when I add new files. It remains after 1) restarting, 2) disabling and reenabling all storage locations, and even 3) uninstalling and reinstalling. it's likely because of a file recognized as corrupt, but scanning for corrupt files in my database turns up nothing (I can play all of them in other players)

Hey @lukadouridas,

Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear about your issues with corrupt files.

We were able to review a fresh set of logs from your Roon Server, and see a handful of files showing corrupt upon import, one example being:

Failed to extract audio format from '/Users/rodney/Library/RoonMounts/RoonStorage_9930b532af74d976adc904a4a9ec6c471d54666b/Roon/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/E-40/Biatch/Biatch.m4a': CorruptFile

We’re also seeing most tracks associated with this folder as showing corrupt as well:

Failed to extract audio format from '/Users/rodney/Library/RoonMounts/RoonStorage_9930b532af74d976adc904a4a9ec6c471d54666b/Roon/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Doc Watson & Son/Doc Watson & Son

What software are you using to scan for corrupt files?

Thank you! :raised_hands:

Thank you! Those files should be already skipped, though - they are in the “Skipped files” submenu under Library settings.

I am using Terminal to just look for corrupt files based on file size.

Hi @lukadouridas,
Are you seeing the same corruption in the terminal as we are seeing in Roon? Sometimes files will show as corrupt in Roon even if they aren’t. Additionally files in skipped files will usually list a reason that they were skipped. What reason is being shown?

Are you seeing the same corruption in the terminal as we are seeing in Roon?

I’m not seeing anything special with those files in my terminal scan - they are the same size as my backups. I just replaced them with my backup copies and hopefully that will take care of them, but it accounts for less than half of what it’s apparently stuck on. And the dialog says it’s rescanning (not importing) which suggests that the problem is encountered post-import - which means the skipped files aren’t relevant, right?

Which logs are you looking at? I went through all of my recent logs and couldn’t find any mention of those files. If I can identify them all and replace them with my backups, that will help narrow this down. But it’s odd - even when I disable every one of my storage folders as well as my streaming service (Tidal) it still says it’s stuck on rescanning 1/8 files. When I readd my iTunes folder, the number goes up to 1/26, and with everything reenabled, it’s now 1/62. So I fear that it’s getting stuck on something else?

Additionally files in skipped files will usually list a reason that they were skipped. What reason is being shown?

They all say “File is corrupt”.

Hi @lukadouridas ,

Looking over your previous logs from the Mac Mini, it looks like this 29 tracks album showed up over and over again: [Various Artists - Nick Tosches' Country]. If you create a Backup, connect all your active music locations and run a Roon Settings → Clean Up Library function, does that help?
