Error applying Roon Server update from version 2.7.1 build 1680 (ref#5XC6X1)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Unable to apply latest Roon Server Update. Currently at version 2.7.1 build 1680. Getting error "There was an error checking for an update" after trying to apply the latest update

Tell us about your home network

· Roon core has been running in Docker on QNAP NAS since APril 2026 without issue. Network Switches are all QNAP. No issues with roon still running and streaming music to clients (IOS, Windows) but just cannot apply update to Roon Core. Clients got the update without issue

Please update your Docker Image to the latest available (v1.0.8 or newer) then recreate the Docker Application to actually use the new image.

Thank you for the quick response. Can I proceed with updating the clients while being on the core at version 2.7.1 ? I will a few days before I can get docker updated and recreating the Roon app image

Then please refrain from updating the clients for the time being - there is no promise for backward compatibility.

Hi @Scott_Schnoor,

Just to be clear, every automatic update has failed so far on this Docker install, or just the latest?

As long as your Roon devices are on the same build version, they should have no issue discovering one another and pairing.

Connectivity between client and server can break if you’re using different builds (especially a severely outdated build) or attempting to connect across release tracks, with one Early Access machine and one Production release machine.

A severely outdated server build will have issues with cloud services, but only if it’s several iterations behind the current build number.

All this is to say, if you won’t be able to update the server for a few days, it’s recommended to keep the remotes on the older build, as well.

Hello Connor, only the most recent Roon core update has failed to install. I have been running roon from Docker since May of this year after ROon stopped running on my QNAP NAS due to incompatibility/end of life on the Roon QNAP native application. THanks

Hi @Scott_Schnoor,

Thanks for the clarification about the failed Roon Server update on your QNAP Docker setup.

If the server cannot be updated yet, then please keep the remotes on the same older build for now. That will avoid introducing a version mismatch while the server is still on the previous build.

Please follow the steps BlackJack outlined and let us know how it goes.

Hello Noris, can you provide a link from Roon for the latest Roon Docker Image? What I see within

below is what I see inside the QNAP Container Station “Docker” Image Roon logs. It shows version 1.0.6. Can you tell me how I can get the latest docker image for roon? If I follow the guidance I did back in May of this year will the Docker image file be 1.0.8? I’m not seeing how I confirm that in the Github repo.

Roon Docker image 1.0.6 starting.
Detected existing RoonServer install (branch: production).
Resolved ROON_INSTALL_BRANCH=‘production’.
Installed branch ‘production’ matches requested branch; no reinstall needed.
Image: 1.0.6
Branch: production
Roon: 2.71 (build 1680) production

==================================

Here you go:

In Container Station go to the Images tab and pull the image in question. If a newer version is available this will download it. Then go to Applications tab and recreate the app in question (to use the new image if there is one). See also:

Then go back to the Images tab and delete the Unused image.

Woot Woot. I’m back in business. Figured out how to pull the latest image and recreated the application. Was able to update the core to the latest version. Thanks for all your help Gents!

Thanks @BlackJack for providing the link.

@Scott_Schnoor, we’re glad the music is back. Please reach out if anything else comes up; this thread will auto-close after a few days, but you can always re-open it or create a new one here.
