Error Checking for Update - Gets to 2/3 way

have the same problem - starts to download, the bar gets to 2/3 full, then says “there was an error checking for an update”
any solutions?

i have a macbook pro 13’’, 2018, 2,7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Mac OS Catallina, 10.5.7
nothing else attached
