Roon shows "error loading folder" when setting up new backup location
Describe your network setup
Trying to back up Roon to a MacBook Pro. I finally figured out how to form a correct network path, the hard drive does show up as a backup path, but I get "unexpected error loading folder".
Try changing the network sharing permissions for the Mac - see here for precise instructions. This guide pertains to Watched Folders for your library, but the sharing steps are the same in MacOS.
Hi - Thanks for the response. I did find that guide and along with about an hour’s worth of troubleshooting with Apple I finally worked out how to get the path right so that Roon was seeing the hard drive… but got error as mentioned.
I just revisited the help steps and saw that maybe read/write access for everyone is what I missed. Double checked and that did it!
Thanks again.
And is backing up iCloud supported at this point?
Nice work!! Glad to hear you were able to sort it out.
Can you provide more detail around your question above? I’d keep anything Mac - Time Machine / backup related completely separate from Roon. Overlapping the two can get messy. Because the Roon database is frequently being updated in the background with new metadata, cover art, artist information, and more, backing up your “live” Roon database using external programs can result in corrupt backups. Westrongly recommend againstusing Time Machine, Crashplan, Backblaze, or other backup applications to backup your “live” Roon database. If you would like to use any of these applications to back up Roon, set up a Scheduled Backup and tell your backup program to backup the RoonBackups folder.
Not sure if Time Machine = iCloud? I do have an old Time Machine but that’s not what I’m talking about, I’m asking if pointing to a folder on iCloud is supported. Sounds like it’s not recommended for the reasons you cite.
