Error occurs when checking for updates

I seem to have the same problem, ignored it for a while. Same Roon Server version, running on an M2 Mac Mini: version 2.56 (build 1582).

The process is a bit bizarre, I tried this a few times now:

  • I’m told that updates are available, on my iPad - if I just say “update everything” like I always did in the past, nothing visible happens at all, and within a day or so the update message comes back
  • If I look at details in the Settings, I can see that an update is available and I can click “install it now”
  • I see a progress bar for “Downloading”, then another one for “Installing”, and then suddenly it’s replaced by “There was an error checking for an update.”

Clearly the message is wrong - whatever happens must be an error during installation, towards the very end of it as far as I can tell. Is there a place where I can check a log to see what actually happened? Or perhaps I should just go to the latest version manually and stop wondering why?

Update. I figured out the problem I had, and I’m afraid it may be different from the one reported in this thread originally. In my case it was a permission issue: I changed the setup of the Mac Mini a while ago to use separate non-Apple-Id user accounts, and I believed I had installed Roon as a user app - but that was not true, somehow the Mac had it in /Applications and the user who runs it wasn’t able to update it. I have now fixed this by moving the app, correcting ownership and permissions, and now everything works as it should. In case somebody would like details of what I did, please let me know.

I apologize for hijacking this thread.
