Error updating Roon Bridge on Denafrips Arce (ref#3OGOLY)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Please see picture, In the "about" section the build versions of Roon remote, Roon server and Roon bridge are displayed. No problems with the first 2, but in the Roon bridge ( i have a Denafrips Arce Roon bridge), it always says there is an update available, but when I click install, I always get "error in checking for update". Is this a Roon issue or a Denafrips issue?

Hello @Bjornvarthr ,

The screenshot indicates that the issue is not with checking for the update, but rather with the installation itself.

This is likely caused by restrictions within your Denafrips system, which may not allow external connections for separate module updates.

We recommend checking the documentation or guides for updating the software on this specific streamer. The Roon Bridge software might be hard-coded into the device firmware. We cannot confirm this at the moment because we did not see an update attempt in the diagnostic logs.

Please try to perform the update one more time and make a note of the exact timestamp when you do. We will then look deeper into the diagnostic report to try and understand the reason for the update rejection.

Thanks.

ok, I pressed the update button just now at 11.16 pm Oslo, Norway time and got the error message …

Hi @Bjornvarthr ,

Unfortunately, we are not seeing any clues in your logging during that time, so it is possible that the update error is only recorded on the Denafrips itself. Are you able to access any sort of web interface for the Denafrips if you type that IP address into a web browser? If yes, is there any debug/log export functionality you see listed?

No, there is no web interface. There is an app, but the firmware on the streamer is up to date. I thought “version 1.8” was a roon software issue?

I have the exact same problem and same error on my Arce streamer. I’m running Roon ROCK NUC. All firmware is up to date, only the Bridge is not updating on command. Alvin Chee has responded from Vinshine Audio but he no longer supports Denafrips. While I’ve heard from him twice this week, I’ve yet to hear back from Denafrips support.

@Bjornvarthr,

after looking into this specific streamer, it appears that the device uses a proprietary, closed operating system developed by Denafrips.

Because the software is integrated directly into their firmware, there is no way to manually access the operating system to update individual background services, such as Roon Bridge, like you would on a standard computer. It is highly likely that any updates to Roon Bridge for this device must be deployed via a firmware update directly from the manufacturer.

We are currently double-checking this with our team to be completely certain, and we will follow up with you as soon as we have confirmation.

Thanks for your understanding.

UPD: We got an internal confirmation that you can’t update Denafrips’s software in any way other than doing firmware update as per their manual.

UPD: It is likely that Roon Implementation will be updated soon for this device, so please track the release notes for its firmware on manufacturer’s page and upgrade the firmware of the streamer according to instructions.
