I have a Denon PMA-a110 connected to a Mac mini Roon server. Recently Roon would give an error "Lost control of the audio device" when it tries to change the sampling rate of the signal. It will generally be able to the first and/or second time but then. it will give an error and the amp display will give an "unlocked" message. It worked fine before.
Describe your network setup
Denon PMA-a110 linked via usb to a Mac mini server
Can you please share with us the exact time stamp of when does the issue happen (time + date) and describe what exactly happens ?
Also, if you are claiming the problem happens only when sample rate switches it likely means that DAC is loosing handshake with Roon and disconnects because it is not Roon Ready device.
What would we recommend you to try:
set a resync delay to a higher value (1 sec. f. e. )
disable exclusive mode
enable Sample rate conversion via MUSE in Roon so it will upsample every track to higher value but will keep sample rate the same.
Let us know please whether any of those advices are working for you.
Thank you for the answer bellow. Will try the buffer solution. Upsampling in Muse works fine but the dac upsaples to 1.8 mhz in any case and I’m thus adding a unnecessary step in the signal chain. I am sure it does not affect the sound in any conceivavble way but ….
Bellow is the timestamp and the sequence.
1.Start playback in roon
2.Device starts playback and displays the track sample rate: 44.1,48,88.1,96 and 192 work fine. Could not find a 176 track.
3.If I play a track of a different sample rate while the previous one is playing the device displays “Unclocked”, Roon says it has lost control and the audio midi console in Mac OS shows the new sample rate. After 10-15 seconds roon recovers control.
Denon PMA-A110 is not roon tested but it has the same digital stage as PMA-2500AE which is.
The symptoms you’ve reported in this thread match a known issue affecting Roon caused by the MacOS Tahoe update.
Specifically, Apple changed some internals for sample rate handling. This causes device re-enumeration issues with RAAT during sample rate changes for USB devices (usually with Exclusive Mode). Custom-implemented class 2.0 USB audio devices are affected, which means a large number of devices common among Roon users.
Roon is not the only audio software affected, although symptoms will vary across different software and with different devices. We’re working urgently on this problem. Apple is aware of the issue and Roon is investigating if we can release an immediate fix/patch in the meantime to restore sample rate changes to our Roon users with Tahoe.

Thanks for letting us know. We are tracking the issue in the main thread reported above and I have merged your report into that thread. I will go ahead and close this thread, and all future updates will be posted in the main tracking thread, thank you!
