I’m expecting delivery of my Nucleus any day now.
I’m getting a Nucleus and have already copied about a gig of tracks currently on my PC, mainly ripped from CD’s and iTunes downloads, from my iTunes files, on to an external SSD to plug into the Nucleus.
My question pertains to those tracks from Tidal or Apple Music that I chose to “download.” Can I copy and transfer those subscription based tracks over just like the tracks I own?
Is that download within the apps, for offline playback or are are these purchased tracked that you have downloaded to your hard disk?
If the former, then Roon will not know of them, if the later, they are just audio tracks and can be copied over just like you other local tracks but with the caveat that if any of the Apple tracks have DRM (Digital Right Management) protection then they can not be played outside of Apple ecosphere.
PS What format is the external USB?
PPS If you’ve not done so, please check out this help article …
If you’ve bought the tracks from a service like Qobuz or Bandcamp or iTunes store, then you can usually add the files to your SSD and have them as part of your Roon library via the server. Tracks you are downloading onto your phone or to your PC to cache and play offline in the Tidal or Apple Music or Spotify app cannot be copied to your Nucleus.
1 gigabyte of music is a tiny amount. To justify the price of that SDD and Nucleus you are going to have to gather a lot more.
