Morning all, after some advice on Roons export function and relinking exports back to into my library. I want to perform a clean up and some standardisation of folder naming and file naming as its not consistent. My collection has been assembled from rips via different software over the years and different sites for digital purchases so is a tad messy, have some folders with _ separating them other not same with file names. So was looking at using Roons export facility to sort of fix all this as its all in my library already.
If I do this and switch my watched folder to the location of these will it link up or will it treat them all as new files , and then I will loose all my tags, analysis and history regaerds to the current versions or is it clever enough to keep this as its exporting them? I fear its not and will be much like swapping streaming services where you loose all you edits and tags. So anybody done this and report back? @AMT i know you did but not sure what edits you did before this.
If I cant keep it then I will just not bother as Roon doesnt care about all this its just me wanting a more tidy and organsied structure.
I have been lucky with CD rips, predominantly used DBpoweramp which identified 99%. Some needed tweaks prior to entering the Roon domain.
Once imported to Roon, most were identified correctly again and metadata added. Ones that needed editing took little time.
I set my own tags as needed.
I then exported from Roon (mainly as a backup) and all metadata and tags were exported.
Currently using Rock from a fresh install, so no tags were set up. I then added my library and all tags were there. I didn’t restore from a Roon backup.
Album/song analysis also zoomed though the process which suggested all data was present.
Not what I asked so doesnt help over what I already now. I mean roons tags and history not the metadata if I switch to use the sorted folfer over the curent one. What you have done is not what I am after. I have 6 yearss of tags and history I want to maintain.
From what I’ve done it appears to be clever enough to keep tags, analysis. It does see this new location as new, but the information is already there.
Maybe, but it works as intended and I know I can export from Roon in a uniform structure that works very well with Plex and others.

Hello , I am cleaning up my Roon library now to get a fresh restart with the use of tags/own metadata. The process i use is:
Export albums
Use MP3 tags where “ROONTRACKTAG” and “ROONALBUMTAG” is enabled. This to to clean up own added metadata in tags and genre before import.
Delete album in Roon.
Import again ( i use the same folder for Roon import )
Play history is gone but tags are being added back in.
Note that if 3) Delete of album is not done Roon reads back the previous tags and attach them to the new import.
For “ROONALBUMTAG” (Genre) i delete all content by the use of MP3Tag to let Roon add this fresh on import and remove “stuff” that has been added through the years to these files.
I am using the same files also in PLEX and I am considering to add some of the tags in “ROONTRACKTAG” (Classic Rock / Work-Out / Evening-Music etc ) also into “ROONALBUMTAG” to get my own genre/tag on Track level for the use in PLEX if/when this will be released. In Roon these tags will pop up as genre’s for the album and in the Genre Hub if import setting for reading Genre from files is enabled.
