· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

I am trying to add an external USB drive for music storage. I can see my Nucleus using the web address but via the App it loads and then goes to the page stating 'There was an issue loading your library' It doesn't matter whether the drive is plugged into the Nucleus or not.

Roon is still online. I can see it via the IP address but cannot use the App because it wont get past the 'There was an issue loading your library page on the App.

Hello @Dorlan_Johnson and welcome to the forum.

There is a guide available to troubleshoot your issue:

The problem is that there is no current database for it to need to see.

I use Blusound for my control of streaming Apps with Roon over that.

I have some scattered music files I want to condense onto a new USB SSD and Roon quit working when I plugged in the new SSD which only has its factory software on it.

I rebooted with it plugged in and no help.

I removed it and rebooted and still no help. It is currently unusable at this time.

There is no internal SSD in the Nucleus currently.

Roon is a database based program. It can’t work with a corrupted database (your situation right now). You need an error free database. You can restore one from a previous (Roon) backup or start fresh from scratch as described in the guide above.

Hey @Dorlan_Johnson,

Sorry to hear about your library corruption issues! Let’s see if refreshing your Roon Server database folder may help:

  • Stop RoonServer from running in Nucleus’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your Nucleus’ Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Database
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Let me know if this helps!

Unfortunately this helped me see through my many attempts to correct this that I had created a second RoonServer on my laptop and that took awhile to completely delete. I thought that was possibly the problem but alas I now only have the Nucleus Rev B that still opens and then goes to trying to connect to the database which I do not have but am trying to establish by adding a dedicated harddrive. Multiple restarts and reboots have not worked either.

@Dorlan_Johnson,

Thanks for the update.

To clarify, you do not need to set up a second computer to act as your Roon Server. Your Nucleus is designed to handle this role entirely.

The goal here is simply to reset the database on the Nucleus itself, which allows you to start fresh and bypass the corruption issue.

Current Status:

Could you please confirm what happened after you performed the database reset?

  1. Did you attempt to connect to the Nucleus using a Roon Remote (phone/tablet/PC)?
  2. If so, did you receive a specific error message, or did it simply fail to find the Nucleus?
Thanks.

My solution was to reset the Roon database and settings. I have started from scratch and this corrected the error and allows me to use Roon again. Now I am trying to learn the best way to place my music data that I own onto an external USB SSD 2tb drive and make the connection in the most efficient way to the Nucelus.

@Dorlan_Johnson,

Thanks for the update.

We would recommend the following method to ensure the drive is recognized correctly:

  1. Format the Drive:

Connect the SSD to your computer and format it to exFAT. This format is the most reliable for drives connected directly to the Nucleus.

  2. Transfer Music:

Copy your music files onto this SSD, then unplug it from your computer and connect it directly to the Nucleus via USB.

  3. Configure Roon:

In the Roon app, go to Settings > Storage and add this SSD as a Watched Folder.

Please let us know if this works for you.

Thanks.
