I’ve had the same problem for a long time, and I’ve been following this discussion closely. But it doesn’t seem like there’s any chance of resolving this issue anytime soon, so I decided to come here and vent.
So..speaking strictly for myself, the latest EA beta does not solve the issue. It merely BSes over it. Yes, I said the new beta BSes over the problem. How, might you ask, did Roon decide to ■■ over this issue? Allow me tell you!
Roon briefly loses control of the audio device when changing sample rates and informs me of this, THEN, it briefly drops the audio device completely for a few moments, only for Roon to re-initialize the audio device, at which point I am then finally able to click play and have the audio start.
Does it technically work? Sure.
Is it ideal? No, it is not.
I don’t appreciate any piece of software dropping my hardware, even momentarily, in order to get around a deeper issue.
I’m not a programmer, I don’t claim to be. I have no idea what the root cause is, but, the symptoms stink.

Quick update…whereas the prior build was losing control of the audio device, re-initializing, and then playing back fine, build 1568 is now losing control of the device and not giving it back.
As the great Neil Peart once wrote, “Trust…so hard to earn, so easily burned.”
Roon, I’ve loved your software, but, music playback software which does not play music back is useless. Making a temperature-sensitive DAC with resistor relays click like crazy without playing the audio properly is just the icing on the cake.
I acknowledge the risks of my being on early access builds, and, I fully expect bugs and the occasional “jank”, but, no playback at all is a bridge too far for me.
I’m having the same problem, it completely loses control of the device. So disappointing.

I can’t agree with the way Roon has handled this issue.
The problem has already been confirmed, but it seems that no warning or notice was given to users.
This makes it seem as if Roon doesn’t view the fact that users are unable to use the system as a serious issue.

I hope so too. Roon is not cheap software.
This issue appears to only affect setups in which the MacOS (Tahoe) Core is directly connected to the external DAC via USB. My other Roon-ready endpoint devices are working fine over the network.
If I decouple the Core from the USB DAC and add a networked Mac Mini (also running Tahoe) Roon Bridge to feed the USB DAC, does anyone know if this will resolve the issue? Or does the Tahoe bug also persist in a Mac OS/USB Roon Bridge endpoint configuration as well?
Are we any closer to a solution ?
UPDATE: I just answered my own question and wanted to pass on result to others.
I can confirm that the issue exists both when Roon Core (Mac OS 26.0.1) is directly feeding a USB DAC, as well as when another networked MacBook (Mac OS 26.0.1) is outputting to a USB DAC via RoonBridge in Exclusive mode. 
However – and this may already be obvious – another networked MacBook endpoint running Tahoe in Exclusive mode has no problems with sample/bit-rate changes when outputting audio through its internal speakers. Problem only appears when outputting via USB to an external DAC.
I was forced to set up a roon bridge on a windows laptop, and move my dac there. This is not acceptable performance from ROON. This is why there is a beta program for MacOS, so you can work out the bugs ahead of time.

As for the latest in my little corner, It’s not my intention to be melodramatic, but, honestly, at this point, Roon isn’t even grabbing a hold of the Schiit DAC anymore. A few days ago, it was at least playing a bunch of songs if I re-started the server applet and the Roon application. Now, I can’t get a tune out of it. Unacceptable folks, really. I’m frustrated. First-world frustrated, sure, but, frustrated nevertheless.
I thought when Roon got acquired that the combination of a cash injection and a commitment from Harman to continue to permit the Roon team to function independently, at least on a day to day basis, would further allow the Roon team to supercharge their service to their most-loyal and long-standing user base, however niche we may be.
Listen, as a grandfathered lifetime sub, I know that users of my particular stripe are largely irrelevant to the current Roon team here in 2025, so, please allow me to frame things in a way which might resonate in a more impactful way: If I’m a current Mac user who is just now starting to get into digital audio and is considering giving Roon a shot, who, in God’s name, is going to pay for audio software that is currently not playing music on their chosen platform? Are you going to send new user trial subs an e-mail asking them to permit you some undetermined length of time before opening the app for the first time so that you can try to get your junk together?
Again, I’m sorry for the book, and, I apologize if I sound privileged, but, within the context of this small slice of the world, this situation is pretty laughable. Not only has Tahoe been out for over a month now, but, my $30 lifetime Swansian software is interacting with my dac and playing back perfectly fine.
