Describe the issue

Network server and endpoints work fine. DAC connected to PC player USB-C port and also system output on PC are recognized as audio zones, but when try to play I get "Too many failures. Stopping playback" message and Roon does not play

Describe your network setup

Roon server on Sonore Sonic Transporter. 2.5G wired network router. Dell Win 11 PC running Roon player. Schiit Vestri USB-C DAC connected to PC

Also a note: Audio playback via the Schiit Vestri DAC using the PC directly (not Roon) functions properly.

Hi @David_Yohn,

Thanks for the details, and for confirming that the Schiit Vestri works normally when you play audio directly through the PC. Does the device by any chance have Exclusive Mode enabled in Windows audio output, or through another app? If you enable Exclusive Mode in Roon via the Device Setup tab for this audio zone, does that allow playback to work?

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

Yes, the Vestri UCB-C DAC plays properly using any other windows audio app other than Roon

I have set “Exclusive mode” to ON in both Roon and in the Windows sound settings.

I have set the firewall exclusion for RAATServer and tw roon applications to allow for both pubic and privayte networks

.My network was set to Public for ethernet. I changed it to Private and all audio devices attached to this PC disappeared in Roon Audio setup. My network endpoints remained.

After a reboot This solved the issue. Roon asked permission for “public and private networks to cross” and I replied yes, and ALL IS WELL.

Again, thank you for the guidance!

-edit- Now I notice that browsing my library on the Roon server is VERY slow and I cannot seem to access Quobuz. Hmm. I will keep playing with it.

-edit2- The slowness issue appears to be associated with MacAfee advanced firewall protection. Even though I believe I have all firewall exceptions set properly in Windows security, as soon as I turned MacAfee off Roon browsing performance returned to normal.

Hi @David_Yohn,

Fantastic news that audio is working and the performance improved after adjusting McAfee — great troubleshooting!

Regarding Qobuz: could you describe what exactly is happening? Are you seeing an error message, or is it simply not loading content? Also, is Qobuz working correctly in its own app or web player outside of Roon?

Let us know and we’ll take it from there!

The Qobuz issue seems to have been related to the McAfee firewall blocking Roon. As soon as I disabled the McAfee firewall, Qobuz returned to working normally as well as Roon. I have never tried Qobuz outside of Roon and in fact have not even loaded their app on my PC.

Again, thank you for the responsive support.
