Description of Issue
Famous artists(*1) don’t get hits in multibyte searches. It’s unclear when the search issue started.
(*1) The artist displayed on the Artist page with an Overview.
Lesser-known artists do get hits in multibyte searches.
It seems that artists registered in the cloud database cannot be searched using multibyte characters.
All song files are stored on the Neucleus internal SSD, and the metadata for song files are registered in multibyte characters.
Examples of no hits - Ryuichi Sakamoto / Displaying the overview
RoonServer_log.txt - “Trace: [music/searchindex] LibrarySearchTotal Query ‘坂本龍一’: 67ms. IsCancelled: False. CandidateCounts: Album Count 0, Track Count 0, Work Count 0, Performer Count 0, Composer Count 0, Genre Count 0, Label Count 0”
Examples of hits - “Yukadan” / Overview is not displayed.
RoonServer_log.txt - Trace: [music/searchindex] LibrarySearchTotal Query ‘憂歌団’: 209ms. IsCancelled: False. CandidateCounts: Album Count 4, Track Count 50, Work Count 0, Performer Count 0, Composer Count 0, Genre Count 0, Label Count 0
For some reason it works for me (and Yukadan as well, both with Latin and multibyte characters.
However, these are streaming service hits and I have no local files with file tags for them.
I have “famous” Chinese artists locally, e.g., with this artist name tag: Zhou Xuan (周璇)
When I search for 周璇, she is found as well, and the local album is also in the search results.
Thanks for your comment.
Since in my environment not only artists but also local tracks show up as Not Found in search results, I’ve decided to use “My Library - Artist + Filter”.
I have already written this issue in the Early Access category. However, the same issue is already happening in the official version, and no one is giving feedback, so I would like to ask for the developers’ support in the Support category once again.
What are you metadata import preferences? Are you able to share a screenshot from Settings → Library → Import Settings for both the album and the track level? You might need to scroll down and take a second screenshot to include preferences for both. Thank you!
Under the Import Settings → Metadata Preferences for Albums, toggle “Prefer Roon” for both Title and Album Artist.
Allow Roon to re-evaluate the library.
Close RoonServer and reopen it and search for one of the local affected album files.
Also, are you able to provide another example of a local track file with multibyte metadata content that is failing to populate in search under these conditions? Here’s the media uploader, with a larger size limit than the previous uploader link. MEDIA UPLOAD
Hi @connor
I sent 7 local track files, one from each of 7 different artists.
I changed the settings, but it seems to take a while to reflect in the database.
I will try the search after it is reflected.
I restarted the Roon server after the database update was complete. I then searched for multibyte artist names.
The search returned “No results found”.
I’m merging your report with another user experiencing the same issue. The team is investigating to make improvements to Roon’s handling of multibyte character searching.
I’ve merged your post into a related thread here. The team is investigating this issue with development and will post here as soon as we have an update. Thank you again for your patience.
I am writing to check if you are aware of a limitations in search using chinese characters in my library. For example, I was looking for a track/album with 5 characters but entering the 5 characters will not yield any results but I was able to get it when using only 2 characters. For example there is an album 重逢民歌精選輯 in my library but using the full album title in search will not yeild anything but if I use 重逢 or 民歌, I am able to locate it.
